Upgrading gnuplot from 4.2.6 to 4.4.

  • Follow

I am working in Linux in Ubuntu-environment. I could not get some of
the features of Gnuplot like "transparency" with the 4.2 version. I
tried to upgrade it. But it says "the newest version is install in
your computer". But it is not so. How to uninstall gnuplot 4.2 and
reinstall gnuplot 4.4?
May you help me in this regard please?

I guess you are not running the latest version of Ubuntu.
http://tinyurl.com/6kox8bv
shows gnuplot 4.4 in maverick and natty.

You could try the instructions I gave in the recent post entitled "rpm?"
to build and install locally in your own home directory.
That would allow you to test it, and also check that you have all
necessary build dependencies. Installing locally wouldn't take you
outside Ubuntu's package management system.

But if you then installed system-wide using "sudo" you would be outwith
Ubuntu's package management system. Not a big deal, in my opinion.

Cheers,
Peter

One option is to download and compile the source.

Alternatively, some people provide personal package archives that
contain newer versions of gnuplot.
A simple search reveals a few:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=3Dgnuplot

Select one that has an up-to-date version, add it to your package
manager, update your package source list, then the new version of
gnuplot will be available in your package manager.
