"Fading out" a picture at the borders

  • Follow

Dear people,

Can I "fade out" a picture at the borders?
I. e., I'd like to define a margin of, say,
1 cm, and the picture should become paler and
paler in this margin from the inside to the
outside until it becomes "all white".
So if it is printed on white paper, the
picture doesn't appear as a sharp rectangle
but gets a "fuzzy" border.

I have PSP 6.0.

TIA!

I really can't remember the options available in PSP 6, so I hope this
helps...

You could try playing with a rectangular selection tool, and adjusting
the "feather" options. invert the selection (control + shift + I) and
then delete. it will fade the outside of your image selection to the
background color selected in PSP.

Which will only be useful if you already know how to do it or if you'd
like to see an example of poor image preparation for a web page... who
knows, someone might like a faint pink background around their images.
Maybe it's an example of how a poorly adjusted monitor can trip you up
by displaying faint colours as white.

Some people don't even understand the process of making a layered image, or
the idea that images can look round but still be rectangles. The tutorial
helps them understand the process, not the specific steps for each piece of
software.

You really are dim.

The tutorial works just fine, pink background or not. You are just being
pissy. Did someone offend you? You poor thing.

Or did hook and line fly up from the depths and lodge in the lip of the
fisherman?

Could be, but it is more likely that the fisherman is playing the fish. You
just have to decide who is who.
