hello,
i'm making an A4 size poster for a play and some A5 size flyers for
promotion as well.
the resolution for both of these is 300dpi.
having only made graphics for web before in much lower resolution,
i'm struggling to define the pixels for these so that they will print
in correct size.
if you got a short and sweet (or even long and dreary if you prefer
;) answer as to what the pixels for both sizes are in 300dpi, i would
really appreciate it!

File > New, then change the units to millimetres and make the width
210mm and the height 297mm for A4. Reverse these if the poster is going
to be in landscape format. Make resolution 300 pixels per inch, the
background will probably be best as raster (unless you're only using
vector drawings and text), 24 bit colour and any background colour (or
gradient, etc) you fancy.
Much the same for the A5 except it will be 148mm wide and 210 mm high.
If your version of PSP is older than 9, make the units centimetres. A4
is 21.0cm x 29.7cm and A5 is 14.8cm x 21.0cm.
If the poster and the flyer are to look identical, make the poster first
and then resize a copy to 71% for the flyer.
