How to remove old Paint Shop Pro installations ?

  • Follow

When I tried to install PSP 8.10 on my computer (Win2000) the installation procedure
informs me that an old installation of PSP is still on my computer. I should remove it first.
But: In "Settings->Control Panel->Add/remove programs" there is NO entry for old PSP installations.

Imagine I removed PSP 8.03 with a delete of the directory (without using the "official"
removal uninstaller). The new psp installer can not cope with this situation?
Very poor!

How do I get ready of old chunks of PSP in the registry ?

Now you know why the instructions for installing PSP 8.10 tell you
un-install--not just delete--existing versions of PSP 8.0x. The
installation consists of much more than the folder you deleted:
registry entries, installation files, and logs for the
un-installation process to use.

You *might* succeed by re-installing PSP 8.03, un-installing it, and
installing PSP 8.10. It is easy enough to try.

If that fails, your next step should be the manual un-installation
procedure found at
http://www.jasc.com/support/kb/viewresult.asp?Aid=1390&kb=PSP8&QueryID=1105821&AN=PSP8142
or http://tinyurl.com/yrzah, followed by installing PSP 8.10.

When all else fails, call tech support. You paid for it, after all.

You are going to have to wade through the registry looking for any old PSP
entires. Try a search - then remove those entries...

You should *NEVER* remove a program by just deleting the directory. That is
not good for your pc.

You can try installing the old version of PSP again and removing it the
correct way or reformatting your hard drive.

Not poor at all. It is a long time since anything but the simplest
software could be uninstalled that way. Deleting directories is as good
a way of ensuring an unstable mess of a computer as anything you can do.

You need to get rid of far more than just the registry... it is the left
over chunks of the Microsoft Installer files associated with PSP that
are causing most of your problem. You will need to follow the link that
Fred Hiltz posted to remove everything other than the PSP8 directory and
it might be worth doing a search for any files with a .pspcache
extension as well and deleting them.

All the best

Hello,
You have to look for every folder concerning PSP (e.g. in "\program files\")
delete them and then clean the registry with regedit.exe: search and delete
every registration entry with the name "jasc" I think. If you're not sure
with registry handling, you can try registry cleaner software (there is a
lot on the net).

Hope it helps.

PS: sorry for my poor english
