New to PSP 8

  • Follow

Am new to digital editing, so I need some advice.
Have a HP Scanjet 3500c flatbed scanner and was wondering whether I
should use that software to scan my pictures and then edit with PSP or
should I scan using PSP software. The HP software is creating bitmaps
but I can change them to either TIF or PNG files.

Please advise.
Thanks,
Steve

PSP does not run a scanner directly, but calls on the HP software
through either of two standard interfaces: TWAIN or Windows Image
Acquisition (WIA). Tell PSP where the scanner is via File > Import >
TWAIN > Select Source. You should find the Scanjet there.

Now you can scan directly into PSP via File > Import > TWAIN >
Acquire without needing the intermediate image file. There is no
difference in image quality, just in convenience.

If for some reason TWAIN does not work, try File > Import > From
Scanner or Camera, which uses WIA.

I've always used psp for the twain, and mark too. It works great and
never lets me down.

One exception: while scanner software is pretty basic, it usually does a
superior job of moire reduction. After-the-fact with PSP never worked
very well for me.

Thanks for the replies. Am able to use PSP via the File/Twain/Acquire.
For some reason File/Twain/Select yields nada, but I'm satisfied.

If you have several items to scan, it would probably be
better (based on my experience with that model HP scanner)
to do the scans with the HP software, and save them to a
folder and later open the files in PSP. I recently replaced
my HP scanner with an Epson Perfection 3490 Photo. The HP
printer software shut down after scanning one item from PSP,
but the Epson software doesn't, which makes it easier to
scan multiple items from PSP.

Think you're right about using the HP scanner in the manner described.
It gives me the flexibility to use IrfanView for minor editing without
using PSP8.
