Extra Newbie Question - Help with image file sizes and resizing
Hi folks,
I'm trying to take an image with a file size of 10KB that is 300 by
200 pixels and shrink it down to 80 by 53 pixels. When I do this, the
image file size jumps up to 13KB. What the heck? Is there any way to
reduce the final file size of the image?
Thank you much!

Hi Squiddy,
The issue you are facing here is not image size, but the amount of
compression on the image (if you are talking abou a JPG file)
When saving, PS should ask you about the level of compression you want to
save it to. Unfortunately the default is not the current compression level
for the open image, but the last compression setting you used.
Note: higher compression = lesser quality image.

A file size of 10K in what format? TIFF? JPEG? Some image formats, such as
JPEG, are compressed. You need to specify the amount of compression; the
easiest way to do this is to use Save for Web.

If the image is a JPEG, this may be because you have not told Photoshop how
much to compress the image. You may also be instructing Photoshop to include an
image preview or a color profile. Either one will increase the file size.

Thank you both. I was going for a jpeg, and I used the save for web
option. I managed to get the image down to 2K, and it still looks
great.
Thank again :)
