I have a very large image and i want it to be printed in full onto 4 sheets 
but photoshop cs doesn't want to do this and just prints the first page of 
the image. any ideas?

I'm not sure if my logic is correct or not but if I were doing this I would
slice the image into 4 peices and print each piece then join the pic
together.

1) Put it into a page layout program like Quark or InDesign and use the 
Tiling feature. You can also do this in Freehand and I believe 
Illustrator and CorelDraw.

2) Check all the options on your printer. Many of them will tile large 
documents. Sometimes it's called Poster printing.
