Power Line Communication (PLC)
Hello, All!
We are going to include home automation features in our device.
After researching HA aspects, I got few questions to figure out:
1) Is PLC the one standard nowdays?
2) As far as I understood - it's not open?
3) Every consumer electronics device in home MUST have support for PLC
(chip, some IC etc.) ?
4) Also I would like to research the source code for PLC device driver for
Linux, is it possible? Are there any open-source projects related to PLC?
(I searched, but didn't find any)
5) Could you please recommend me the specificatoins and general information
related to PLC and development for it.
Also, URLs are encouraged.
Thanks in advance!
With best regards, Roman Mashak. E-mail: mrv@tusur.ru

There is no PLC "standard". There have been and are several PLC
methodologies using several different "PLC chips" from several
manufacturers.
Legal & Regulatory standards differ from country to country and region to
region.
This is as good a starting point as any...
http://www.tenet.res.in/commsphere/s13.5.pdf
There are several detailed technical papers at...
http://info.iet.unipi.it/~filippo/documenti/powerlines/PowerLineCom/FrameRIF.html
There's a really thorough discussion of powerline noise problems in...
http://info.iet.unipi.it/~filippo/documenti/powerlines/PowerLineCom/Bibliografia/Rif36.pdf
There's a consortium working on this...

You might also try Google on "PLC modem".
There is also X-10 and PCS UPB.
You need to be a bit more specific.
