Sadly, Robert passed away this past Sunday.
Rest in peace Robert.

Things have not been the same since Robert dropped off the forum when
he got bad.
May he rest in peace.

I'm pretty sure Robert's not one to "rest". He's more than likely
reconfiguring a heavenly server to accept "PrayPal" and gearing up for
his first 100 mile ride. My condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out
to Robert's family and friends.

Indeed I did. I was the phantom author of the "bassnastyburger" website from a
few years back. The one with the paper target for practice shooting.
Also, I acquied www.goofysplace.com a few months ago. I promised RLB I would
turn it into a tribute site for him, rather than what is was.
I am taking ideas/suggestions on what to put on the site. Does anyone have
photos? I will install a (moderated) guestbook and some photos I have, along
with a poem that was his favorite.

The nicest thing you could do with goofysplace.com is to just let it
go.

I agree. Too many bad memories. Take it down, but don't let it go.
Keep it safe and away from anyone that could abuse it. That's the best
thing you could do for Robert.

That must have been quite a few years old. What was this?
Would it be appropriate for the goofysplace site?

RHC:If you promised RLB that you would do that and he was ok with the
idea, then do it. However, other than that, I agree with the others
who say best to leave it alone. If you do go ahead, I have some
pictures that might be suitable of he and I on a motorcycle run

I'll post my impressions
It's too bad he passed away however his legacy here is spending most
of the time driving people away which he did very well, he slammed the
entire security industry to push product and in a few cases tried to
go real-life on those he disagreed with (including me). Had he been
civil providing security advice and not back stab everyone he WOULD be
missed.
You may all resume your gushing praises

I'm sure Al doesn't hold any grudges. I know Robert tried his best to
make amends before the end. I think that speaks volumes. And with
this, I hope I've not stepped over into "gushing praises" territory. I
certainly wouldn't want to offend our resident curmudgeons.

You are an absolute douche and oxygen thief.
Look at you clinging to Mark's post in hopes he will share the sick
pleasure you found in the passing of another person.
You sad twit has it occurred to you that you are viewed as an ignorant
troll?
You know Pete you are one of the few people I have ever encountered
online that I seriously would take joy breaking a foot up in their ass
if not for fear that I would clip your skull in the process causing
you further brain damage.

Not really, Tom would likely talk Petem to death first and Petem is
just saying what a lot of people were thinking, unlike a lot of people
here he's not afraid to say it

RHC: No, the truth is both you and Petem are unable to forgive and
forget things that happened in the past, unlike most everyone else
here. Why that is only you can say. However, that is not at all
complimentary to either of you.
Bob is gone, and what I do know is that in the 15 years we shared this
newsgroup, not once did he ever resort to insults when we disagreed
over a great many things. Your unwillingness to even try to make
things right with him when he was dying is small minded and petty
frankly.
Its no wonder the world is full of hate and discord when there are so
many people who can't even forgive minor transgressions on a virtual
newsgroup let alone really important issues of disagreement !!!

Believe what you want.

Petem is happy Robert passed away. Are you saying a lot of people here
are happy that he died? I know your thoughts on the matter. You
expressed long ago that Robert should just die and get it over with
(your words not mine).
> unlike a lot of people
> here he's not afraid to say it <
Well since you know so much why not share who is afraid to express joy
in public over Robert's death?
You're talking out of your ass again, Mark.
You, Pete, and some sock puppet have made no bones about wanting
Robert's death expedited. Pete is a douchebag. The sockpuppet is what
it is. What does that say about you when you wished a quicker death
than what really took place? You wanted a man to die because he
annoyed you via the internet. How sad is that?

Unfortunately, and regardless of who it may apply to ..... people who
are dain bamaged ( ie. " crazy") don't know that they are, nor can
they be convinced of it.

Had he done so before he was sick it might be another story, he was
just trying to make himself "right" with his maker

I admit I intentionally kept my distance from Robert over the years.
But I am sorry he is gone.
Mike S. was just as hard headed. We became friends, and to this day, I
still keep in touch with his family.

I do, however, find it quite amazing that even in death, that just the
subject of him continues to raise the ire of people .
It seems to me that there's nothing to be either gained or loss by
continuing any conversation either positive or negative regarding him
or the legacy he left behind.
It seems to me that it would be good for anyone who feels it's
necessary, to get whatever "feelings" out that they believe they need
to express and then forget about it.
I can't imagine anything more that could be said or done that hasn't
already been said or done.
Truly, an amazing epic.
It's over.

Absolute lie!
Better not to contradict yourself in a defence.
The guy ran a hate squad for years here.

Mike Sabodish, Robert Bass, and Jake Ashbury are all back together
again. Imagine spending eternity on a newsgroup with those 3.
Cripes if you want to really fear death just think of the size of the
posts Bob Campbell will offer up when time no longer matters....
We love ya RHC but you are a long winded bastard.

No Josepi he's not wrong. Read his statement again. Robert Bass and
Robert Campbell never once exchanged unpleasant comments towards one
another. RHC was speaking of his relationship with RLB and not RLB's
conduct towards others.

I am happy to miss his OCD in the group. He offended many for personal gain.
His knowledge and life will be greived.

Robert didn't make any "dommage" in my gray matter. Over the last few months I
got to know the "real" RLB, not the persona he played here.
You disgust me Pete. Didn't your mom ever tell you if you can't say something
nice, keep your damn mouth shut? This thread is a memoriam thread. I knew you
and Mark would go and ruin it. Start your own thread if you want to be
negative.

If you mean that he went with the peace and comfort that comes from
extending the olive branch, then, I guess, you are right.
If you simply mean death, well, isn't that what we are all destined for?

Wow, sad to hear. He was a tough cracker to break.
We're all just trying to make a living, Robert was no exception.

More than likely the whole death thing was faked so he could change his
nickname and get away from all the "trolls" chasing him with their top
posting. It was so painful for him he just had to be an asshole about it and
attempt to start a feud over it.

And that's why you do not, and never will, understand.
You still think that by refusing his gesture you somehow hurt him.
Your response indicates that you have what is called an external locus
of control. How others view you is more important than how you view
yourself. Since that is your frame of reference, you tend to believe
everyone sees life that way - so you, in turn, believe that how you view
someone is more important than how they view themselves.
I would seem that Robert, based upon his participation in this
newsgroup, had an internal locus of control (the opposite of that
described above).
When you apologize to someone, you hope to be forgiven and if your
apology is rejected it compounds your internal misery. Of course I am
only surmising here, but it is based upon your reaction to Roberts
apology. What you don't understand is that the ultimate peace one can
achieve is self-forgiveness.
Self-forgiveness does not depend upon that reactions of others.
Self-forgiveness comes from sincerity. When someone is sincerely sorry
for something they have done all they can really do is offer a sincere
apology. Certainly there could amends made, financial or otherwise if
appropriate and possible, but in the case we are discussing in this
thread there wasn't much else that could be done.
How folks respond to that apology is really a moot point. If the
apology is not sincere, the person making that apology knows it and it
would not matter if everyone began singing their highest praises - no
peace or comfort would be achieved since they would know it was based
upon false premise.
So I chose to accept Robert's declaration at face value, since it
mattered not a whit to me whether or not he was sincere. That is for
his own conscience.
You say we were fooled and we are suckers - at what cost? It wasn't as
if he was asking for money. On the other hand, your fear of being
"fooled" or "suckered" in such a benign circumstance says quite a bit
about you.
Robert may be gone, but he lives rent free in your head...

This could indicate to people he just changed nicknames.
I mean, really? When somebody dies, who is going to sign into a group and
tell them. Who fucking cares?
Does it affect their insurance claim?

I wasn't trying to make you change, simply explaining (based upon
psychology) why you are the way you are.
Where did I say you should respect him?
What I wrote had nothing (other than peripherally) to do with Bass - and
that's the part you don't understand...

First of all, you are no psy, and you cant even come close to what I really
am as a man, by the few post I do here, And I hope you were not billing for
the consult ;-)
And what you lack to understand, is pretty simple, I have no good feeling
for the jerk that was robert bAss , And for me, I will never fall in the
false remores pit most of you felt in..
If I choose to stand proud to what I am, in no way you can argue that its
for x reason, you dont know my past experience, you cant even imagine the
way I am.. stop bugging you with such problem, he is dead, he was a jerk and
thats it..

Yet he lives on, rent free, in your head - lol
Harboring a resentment is you drinking poison, holing the other person
dies... which is pretty ironic in this case, since he has already passed.

Sounds like the other way around, Petem didn't like RLB when he was
alive, didn't believe what he said when he was dying and doesn't
really miss him now that he's gone and isn't afraid to say so.
I feel the same way, if someone doesn't like it tough shit

There's a difference. Unless I missed it you haven't been saying that
those of us who took Bass' change of heart at face value and said,
"Okay, good enough for me..." are fools and were "suckered". Fine,
there may have been a bit of "gushing" due (IMHO) to the psychological
leanings of most people to believe that what goes around comes around
and don't we all want our sins to be forgiven when we near the end?
Most do.
He went further than to say, as you did, that you simply didn't like him
and his passing doesn't change that, he acted as though he is joyful at
the passing of another human being, sort of like that kid who started
teasing the easy mark just because everyone else was but doesn't know
when to quit.
Besides, he's more fun - I mean, he has all these chains just begging to
be yanked... though I've probably queered it now...

On the other hand, it wasn't Petem who started this thread. And I
daresay if no one had started the thread it wouldn't have been him or
any of those who are adversely commenting on this subject who would
have started it. Who ever stated it had to know that it was going to
go in this direction. If they didn't ..... well ..... then .... they
never learned a damn thing over the past 13 years. Some are going to
"forgive" Bass and some aren't. So what the fuck are you all going to
do? Argue over the next 13 years whether that's ok or not?
It's over. No one is ever going to change what happened. Some things
never get resolved. This is certainly one that isn't important enough
to start another revolution in ASA about. Not being able to resolve
this subject will never affect anything that will or can ever happen
here from this point forward.
Let it go. there's nothing to gain or lose by trying to convince
someone of something that they don't believe.
How much "over" does something have to be to finally let it go.?
Let me give you an example. Bob C and I have been at each others
throats for a long time. I'm sure I haven't convinced him nor he me to
give up our points of view. Now, we talk and just don't mention the
other shit. That's ok with me and it seems ok with him. "Liking" each
other doesn't come into the equation.

Well said.
I have also found people slamming me, insulting me, and rabble rousing
others to killfilter me etc.. only to find some quoting the very statements
that "raised the dander" in other groups.
It's over. some won and some lost, in their own heads.
