I forgot to take the cap off of my dryer before they took it to the dump.
(Got a new one.) Will a .01uf 500 VDC (RatShack 272-131) work ??? Of
course it's a ceramic cap not an electrolytic. I forgot the value on the
old one that got away. I have always put it onto the dryer cord hookup on
the dryer itself. Insulated block and usually lots of room to work and you
just have to unplug the dryer to put it on. Worked for me for years. The
dryer was older than the cap but if I had remembered to save it it might
have lasted as long as the new dryer.
Thanks in advance for any input.

A self healing AC-rated type like
polypropylene is mandatory. About 0.33 to 0.47uF at 630V

You didn't goof at all. The one you bought will do the trick nicely.
