I installed certificates and they appear to be installed correctly (IIS
reports that they are). The sites are configured to listen on port 443
as well.
But while I can run html pages, I cannot access the sites via https. I
get a 404 error.
Any ideas on what else may be required?

Whenever that happens on my server, it turns out the SSL has gone down. I
have to restart it with SSL. Since I'm using Apache on a Linux machine
presently, I can't help much in how to go about doing that - but it would be
my first suspicion.
