Description: JOB SPECIFICATION: Assists Senior Research Chemist in conducting chemical and physical laboratory tests and analysing materials. Assists other departments during the introduction of new products by conducting tests on foam/equipment and conferring with other scientists/engineers regarding solutions to problems. Assists in performance testing of formulations, which includes foam qualities and fire testing both on and off-site. Assists with regulatory approval programs, product support and customer training.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Formulates new products to improve cost and/or performance.
2. Tests foam concentrates to measure physical, chemical and fire performance characteristics to evaluate new products and to compare competitors' products with KFF products.
3. Assists the Engineering department in performing the necessary tests to obtain independent approvals for foam concentrates and equipment from agencies including Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Factory Mutual (FM) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
4. Synthesizes new raw materials to improve the cost and/or performance of the company's foam products.
5. Prepares project reports to communicate information on new products, processes or modifications for solution of technical problems. May submit summaries of laboratory activities or assist in preparing standards or specifications for products/processes.
6. Performs miscellaneous duties in support of the laboratory operations including setting-up, operating and devising product-testing equipment, processes, techniques or methods.
7. Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor�s degree in Chemistry and two (2) years experience with formulations and performing analytical work or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. Working knowledge of instrumental analysis and experimentation strategies.
3. General knowledge of foam concentrate testing, wet chemical analysis and statistics.
4. Familiarity with foam systems and equipment.
5. Working knowledge of the MS Office suite of software products.
6. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
