of RF, analog, digital and wireless technologies.

Scope: Our client seeks a Senior Communications Systems Engineer to
define the architecture and feature set/performance
requirements for a set of world-class Wireless Personal Area
Networking (WPAN) products based on Ultra Wideband (UWB)
technology, with an emphasis on integrated radio frequency
(RF) communications design. The selected individual will
deliver the architectural specifications and the system
requirements for the WPAN chip sets, ensuring their clear
communication to the product development and implementation
organizations. Further, this person will monitor and review
the progress of the implementation process to ensure the
fielded products will meet stated market needs. Although
this is a senior individual contributor role, and not a line
management position, this person will provide technical
direction and guidance on a project basis to a small group
of technologists working on various design programs. This
opportunity is well-suited for an entrepreneurial
technologist with an established track record seeking to
join a well-funded, privately held company positioned to
literally transform the wireless industry. The successful
candidate will be a recognized industry expert who has
effectively functioned as a technical advisor to peers,
management and customers, producing innovative products
and/or processes leading to significant revenue
              opportunities.

              Technical Responsibilities:
Perform systems engineering tasks, acting as the key
technical contributor to the architecture and requirements
definition and allocation efforts for UWB radio chip set
products. Coordinate systems analysis efforts, working with
other members of the Systems Engineering team. Perform
systems simulations to characterize standard operating
modes, as well as proprietary extensions yielding key
              performance/market advantages. Generate system
specifications for FPGA-based version of product, pending
the ASIC implementation of the chipset.
Lead and manage the design review process at all levels to
ensure that resulting products meet stated feature set and
performance requirements. Detailed analysis and evaluation of
Link budget in various channel models; range/rate studies based
on variations of desired PER, packet size, maximized ranges, etc.
Perform gain/noise figure/dynamic range analysis, maintaining
UWB-based estimates of all transceiver system losses (i.e.
system jitter, receiver efficiency, noise figure, etc.),
BER, PER, etc.. Analyze and evaluate complex coding and
signal modulation schemes, applying intimate knowledge of
signal processing and information theory to ensure success
of the resulting radio products. Monitor Media Access
Control (MAC) development to ensure a well-defined (MAC/PHY)
interface is developed. Make technical presentations to
management and customers, enabling customers to understand,
from a technical viewpoint, the capabilities and impact this
chipset can deliver to their future products. Participate
in the development of product and technology roadmap
              strategy.
