Google outage?

  • Follow

Admins, have you been noticing the repeated posts? Google Groups seems to
be experiencing a Usenet outage. I guess it's since the 25th or so. Looks
like 28th on clax. "Pointer to struct? (TASM)" has 3 posts on GG, and 12 on
Usenet. I.e., GG users can't see their posts, so they are resending, e.g.
Ruud in "Reading/writing hard disks directly in LBA mode". You might
consider emailing repeat posters from groups.google.com and let them know
their posts are posted, to Usenet. You could also let them know that GG is
not Usenet and they should check valid Usenet servers.

I'm thinking that traffic in ALA & CLAX has dropped enough that GG doesn't
bother to archive it. I fear that, if this situation continues for a while,
GG will drop these two groups all-together and not even allow GG users to
post to them.

One possible solution would be to start posting lots of public domain
reference material to these two groups. Perhaps the activity-level could be
raised enough that GG would resume their archiving?

Okay, it seems that this affected all groups -- not just the 'low activity'
ones. I conducted some inquiries ( at ISC, etc. ) and they "looked into it"
( Google, apparently ) and the explanation returned is that GG has recently
been in 'two-day delay mode' this week in anticipation of the *full rollout*
of the "New Google Groups" interface which is apparently scheduled to happen
tomorrow. I guess we must just hope that things "clear up" by the end of
the week. :)

I've recently made a post to This newsgroup via GG and am waiting for
it to appear?

It was about Networking Books / PDF's available with ASM in them...I
just fancy a read on the subjekt.

Kind regards,
