Bug reported. Also, I see where it says "Welcome to the new Google Groups. Learn more>>" near the top. :-)

Column breaks
Okay, I feel like an idiot. About a month ago, I found this information and now I have forgotten it. I'm using the paragraph style "Column break before" to break out my chapter headers and such in the book I'm laying out. I KNOW there was a keybaord shortcut to apply this style to the paragraphy, but for the life of my I can't find it. Help? What Do I need to do to apply "column break before" without having to go to the paragraph menue? <freaknightproductions@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:1110228636.490014.176260@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com...

multiple breaks
Hi everybody, Several means to escape a nested loop are given here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/189645/how-to-break-out-of-multiple-loops-in-python According to this page, the best way is to modify the loop by affecting the variables that are tested in the loops. Otherwise, use exception: "If, for some reason, the terminating conditions can't be worked out, exceptions are a fall-back plan." In the following example, is this possible to affect the two iterators to escape the two loops once one "j" has been printed: for i in range(5): for j in range(i):

Tiger breaks hyperCard #2
Hi, I've depended on hyperCard for many years, mostly for business purposes. For that reason, I long delayed moving to OS X. I've made the change, finally, and I've (mostly) converted my hyperCard stacks to Runtime Revolution. I still need to run hyperCard in Classic mode sometimes, though. I'm currrently using OS 10.3.9 I've heard from reliable sources that hyperCard won't run in Classic mode under the new Tiger OS. Is this an error that Apple intends to correct? If not, it seems likely that other older applications will not run properly under Tiger. Seems like hyperCard couldn't be the only one that Tiger breaks. Is Apple deliberately cutting back on Classic mode operability, to force users to drop Classic mode and Classic-only applications? Where can I find a list of applications that won't in Classic mode under Tiger and more information about this whole issue? Now that we're on the subject, I'm considering purchase of a Mac Mini. I guess they ship with OS 10.4 (i.e., Tiger). Will they boot and run correctly under OS 10.3 if I prefer to preserve Classic mode operability for older applications? Thanks in advance, Tim In article

Revolution list (I think you can subscribe at runrev.com) that Tiger breaks hyperCard. It might run and seem to be okay at first. Possibly certain hyperCard features are broken. I'll inquire further on the Revolution list. It's possible I misunderstood, or maybe a maintenance upgrade has already fixed the problem. Garner, in a reply on this thread, seems to think I'm panicking because a legacy application might stop working in classic someday. No doubt somebody somewhere feels that way -- it's an oft-repeated theme on Macinotsh NGs. But it ain't me. Thanks anyway. I

putback breaks the stream state?
Hi, all! I'm getting the ifstream state setting to bad and fail in the following program (see below). I suspect there's some "feature" in putback I don't know about or missed. May be putback isn't always available? The demo below stops and prints "### bad fail", where ### is some line number, different for every text file. Text files I give it on input are usually without empty lines and contain more than 1000 lines. Five chars I putback are just a "magic number" to make program stop sooner (for example, at line 25, 140 or 245). std::ifstream

softice breaks suddenly !!
Hi, while debugging my win98 display driver, my softice breaks suddenly and reports me to 'R - Return' or 'C- continue' . But, even after returning back to softice and pressing 'G', it breaks and throws 'GPF'. But, i am able to step through the same function for the consecutive 5 times and once again in the 6 th time, it causes the same problem. what is the problem actually ? is it the problem of softice ?? thanx and regards, karthik bala guru

Re: Page Breaks #7
I don't have any examples on a web page - if I want page breaks, I use PDF, which was designed with print output in mind. A posting to SAS-L a while back (http://www.listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0101C&L=sas-l&P=R7111) said that a page break can be forced with the CSS style "page-break-before: always;". I suspect that that's not what the requestor really wants - they probably want page titles and footers, repeating table headers, and so forth. That's where it gets tricky. When I last investigated this (some time ago), there was only partial support in any browser, and the browsers which supported it varied in their implementations. The original poster hasn't told us what they want to do, so any answer is just speculation at this point. Not that I object to speculation, of course. -- Jack Hamilton Oakland, California > -----Original Message----- > From: SAS(r) Discussion [mailto:SAS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU] On > Behalf Of Howard Schreier <hs AT dc-sug DOT org> > Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2005 8:12 pm > To: SAS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU > Subject: Re: [SAS-L] Page Breaks > > If you have a representative page or two

Paragraph breaks in Table entries
Using the tabular environment in the form \begin{tabular}[t]{*{3}{p{1.2 in}}} to create a 3-column table, which the entries will in general be multiline paragraphs. Questions: 1) Can I somehow set some default options [linespacing, raggedright, font specificications, etc] that will apply to all the paragraphs in this table (and then go away after that). 2) Some of the "paragraphs" in this table -- that is, some of the entries in some of the rows in this table -- I'd like to be several paragraphs long, with some reasonable \parskip between these paragraphs. Re: Page Breaks #4
Hi Jeff, I don't have experience doing something like that, but AFAIK the html language does not know page breaks at all. And if your tables (lines) are to widt to be printed the rightmost portion just won't be printed. You could experiment while printing from your web browser changing paper layout from portrait into landscape and reducing the font size. You could also code a (smaller) font size in your html code, or reduce the number of columns. Regards - Jim. -- Y. breqn.sty and automatic page breaks
I'm using breqn to automatically line-break machine-generated formulae, which works fine, but sometimes these expressions have too many lines to fit on a page. Is there a way to make breqn (or some other package) do automatic page breaking too? Kasper

Insert page breaks?
I fully appreciate that Acrobat is not an editing or word processing tool and PDF not a format intended for doing such, but I'll ask anyway, just in case: Given a multi-page PDF document having clear breaks between internal elements (paragraphs, figures, etc), is there any way to insert page breaks at some of those points within the document? maybe by starting at the end and working backward? Inserting a page break is not a meaningful concept in PDF terms. The best you could do is split the page into two new pages - which you can do in Acrobat by duplicating the page then cropping each one. ---------------------------------------- Aandi Inston quite@dial.pipex.com http://www.quite.com Please support

FM7 and forcing page breaks
Hey folks - I have a client with a problem. It's been a long time since I worked with FM, not since 5.x days ;) Anyway, the client has a report with a record that might span several pages. This record is formatted with indentation, boxes, etc. Sometimes there are page breaks in ugly places, so that there are orphans, etc.: A. Sample text B. Sample text <PAGE BREAK> C. Sample Text Is there a way we can force page breaks before sections? Again, I don't know all the details of the layout, so if there's more info needed, let me know what it is, and I can report back ;) Steve Lefevre On Wed, 22 Sep 2004 15:55:02 -0400, Steve Lefevre wrote: > Hey folks - > > I have a client with a problem. minimising ledmac page breaks
Hello, I'm working on a Latin commentary, with some pretty hefty footnotes. ledmac is working well, but every once in a while I get a page break which leaves me with lots of white space. Is it possible to increase (or decrease?) penalties or the ballast so that ledmac will be less willing to page break and more likely to let column foot notes spill to the next page? I'm looking blankly at p. 79 and 87 of the manual, but I'm not sure how to go about this. Also, is it possible to configure the footnotes in ledmac to float immediately beneath the text, rather than alway
