Clarion DOS to Clarion Windows Conversion
Hi Newsmembers - What problems have you encountered when converting from a DOS-based Clarion project to Clarion for Windows. I'll be using Clarion version 5.5, and upgrading to 6.0 in the near future. Thankyou, - Kevin Willis klwillis.dsl@verizon.net ICQ:32805500 A fully rewrite is generally required. If you have a bunch of logic code (formulas and such), then you can convert that source without too much effort. Everything else (especially the windows interface and file access code) will require a significant rethinking and almost total redevelopment. Sorry for the bad news. -=> Mike Hanson <=- On Mon, 03 Nov 2003 22:06:40 GMT, Kevin Willis <klwillis.dsl@verizon.net> wrote: >Hi Newsmembers - > >What problems have you encountered when >converting from a DOS-based Clarion >project to Clarion for Windows. > >I'll be using Clarion version 5.5, >and upgrading to 6.0 in the near future. > >Thankyou, > >- Kevin Willis >klwillis.dsl@verizon.net >ICQ:32805500 > > > > dont do it ! and if you have the chance to look out into the future. think about looking at tools that can generate .NET apps say VB . Since clarion is a product that is not language indepandent think about a tool set that cater for more then one language and doesnt use a meta modelling system such as txa's. so before leaping into clarion for windows which is really a product designed ...

what is clarion?
? A very powerful development system for building computer programs. Its primary focus is database applications, but it can be bent into a lot of different shapes by a knowledgable user. What Clarion really is: It is a database centric language with a code generating IDE, which will basically complete 70 - 80% of your DATA MAINTENANCE code after you designed your tables/files in the Data Dictionary. Then the IDE is used to develop the UNIQUE procedures for your application using many available templates and CODE EMBEDS in the templates. What basically is Clarion? 1) Clarion is actually an APPLICATION PROGRAMMING language and a code generating IDE. It is designed for easy usage while building data-intensive business computer applications. Clarion has one BIG difference in developing database applications in that the Developer MUST determine what data is to be in the database and how that data is to be manipulated BEFORE beginning to develop the application. This is because the FIRST thing you must develop in the IDE are the data files using the Data Dictionary Utility. 2) Clarion has an Integrated Design Environment (IDE) which includes a data-dictionary utility so...

Need a Clarion programmer small jobs and maybe more
Our family company sells accounting software for municipalities in Wisconsin. We only sell in Wisconsin but would love to expand both in and out of the state. This program was realized by my Dad who had been in the computer business shortly after he purchased a TRS 80 then a Commodore 64! Many Clarion programmers in the Clarion groups knew him. He built, sold, repaired , upgraded, taught classes about and programmed computers. He was amazing and I don't say this only because he is my Dad but other respected programmers were impressed at his ability and that he was 100% self taught. Now to the point. He died unexpectedly last year and since then we have been having problems. We had to hire an outside firm at a large cost to keep up our current software which includes the accounting software (called Marge) and then a another program (called TUBS) that bills utilities such as water and sewer. We are looking at expanding to a few more smaller programs that would enhance our package and also be able to run independently from the main accounting software. We are a small company with BIG goals and are having problems finding a programmer that wants to grow with us, be able to sign a non-compete and confidentiality contract. We will pay by the job and possibly profit sharing if you the person for us. We have tried several places such as Monster, classified online and newspaper, our church's employment resources, etc. We seem to find every big firm of programmers,...

OT:Clarion Programmer looking for a job, have vertical product to sell
Hi all. Well to tell the truth I'm tired of working for myself so I'm looking for a permanent programming position with a good clarion shop. To sweeten the pot: I offer to my new employer the marketing rights and 49% ownership of my current medical practice software and the future 2004 version Specs for the new version (2004) based on feedback from current clients and competitors is complete and It's now ready to build. I want to offer a different marketing paradigm of offering subscription instead of selling outright to the medical practitioners. I feel that medical software is overpriced for reasons I have outlined on my web site http://www.therjohnsoncompany.com/proposaldocs/indepth.htm . I have to give credit to Gus Greces of Handy Tools for the subscription concept. A doctors office can afford $599 annually much easier than the standard price of $2500 and convincing them of that will be easier too. My new employer must have an interest in marketing to the medical field. I can bring an awesome product to the table for you to market immediately and the new version can be complete within 6 to 9 months. The specs are available on my web site along with proof of concept screen shots. What makes the current version so unique is that it was designed by a working staff at a medical office. A reprint of a testimonial describing the process is available here: http://www.therjohnsoncompany.com/software/soft_testimonial.html If you have an interest in adopting...
