cobol compiler for Windows 7

I'm an out of work mainframe developer who wants to keep up my Cobol
skills. Is there a low-cost or free Cobol compiler available that
would work on my PC with Windows 7 operating system?

minimal latex system for windows
I want to create SVG out of MathML. One way to do is mml->tex->dvi->svg. DVI -> SVG is no problem, there are some XSLT scripts for that purpose. I use MathType to create equations and it is capable to export into latex. Now I want to create a DVI out of this tex file. Since I'm on Windows I have downloaded MikTex and it works fine. But I plan to incorporate this conversion into my own application (by calling some commandline) and MikTex (even in a small installation) is far to much for that purpose. I have not found any information what i minimally need to create a DVI out of a...

Outputting 7 SAS datasets to 1 tape in one pass
<posting for a co-worker> Dear SAS-L, re: Outputting 7 SAS datasets to 1 tape in one pass My restrictions are: 1- I am working in a mainframe environment, 2- 3 tape drives are available during the job, but I can only output a permanent file to one drive. 3- I can only control JCL related commands through the SAS language, as I cannot have access to writing true JCL. What are your suggestions so that I can keep the I/O time and CPU time low? A possible approach might be to. 1. SORT SAS_DB by some GROUP variable = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 so that t...

wxPython and GTK+ on FreeBSD 4.7

New Cobol compiler written in Cobol
I am considering the development of a Cobol compiler itself written in Cobol. Please don't flame me over the perceived stupidity of such a choice, I think it is a better idea than a language that cannot compile itself. I do believe obviously that there is enough power in the language to implement a COBOL compiler using the COBOL language. After all, a compiler is simply a program to translate text from a source into a target. We're not talking rocket science or brain surgery here. I believe there is money to be made with a good inexpensive Cobol compiler which is available ...

searching for a cobol job
Hello, i'm 37 years old and come from germany. At the moment i'm jobless. I worked 9 years in the cobol environment ( Microfocus, ACU ) as a programmer. I programmed for ERP's and a security trading system. My further profile: Oracle, Java, Jsp, Javascript, HTML, PHP5, mySql, Linux, UNIX. My problem is, that if i search a cobol job, the most job's need IBM experience. In Java i have only 1 year job-experience and in PHP only a half year job-experience. The question is, where (on the map) is a cobol job for me where IBM experience is not so important ? I want to be no longer jo...

Graphics Window Setup
I'm running Open Server 5.0.6 and long ago I disabled the graphics window that was opened by default on tty02 because I didn't need it. Actually it was more simple than that. Whenever I work I use several windows and got tired of having to push ctrl-alt-F1, or whatever to get out of the tty02 graphics window. Now I need one. I have been through the steps in the SCO OpenServer Handbook, and got to the point that the selected window, tty08, did present a graphics window, but only in a flashing form. Right now I'm looking for the notebook where I kept all that stuff and for the o...

[9fans] c compiler size bug fix
unfortunately i let this one fester until it cost us some time. this problem has cropped up again http://9fans.net/archive/2009/07/305 (it appears that my worry about expandable arrays was unfounded.) the problem is that the size of an undefined struct as the last element of a struct is not counted because it is not known at the time. rather than diagnosing an incomplete reference, the program compiles and prints an unespected size, "sizeof A = 4 4". i don't believe it should compile at all. the fix is simply this: /n/dump/2009/0915/sys/src/cmd/cc/dcl.c:541,547 - dcl.c:541,5...

Cobol Standard 2004
