Gforth snapshot for Windows
There's now a working Gforth snapshot available with maybe some minor
issues. You can find it here:
http://www.jwdt.com/~paysan/gforth-0.6.9-20081006.exe
I've given it a small amount of testing. Bugs I already know:
* the ffcall-based old C interface doesn't compile (that's a won'tfix: this
library is not compiled to work with shared libraries, it won't work under
Windows, anyway, and the libffi-based old C interface provides a good
replacement). I'll probably change the configure script to ignore ffcall on
Windows completely.
* The README.txt presented by the installer is outdated, I haven't converted
the current README file into DOS txt format for reading by the installer.
The main difference is that this snapshot has not been tested on an
abundance of architectures.
Outstanding tasks for 0.7.0:
* Automatically generate the libcc directories
* Backward compatibility check for vmgen-0.6.2

Downloaded gforth-0.6.9-20080405.tgz onto FreeBSD 6.1R/FreeBSD 7.0R, and
found a number of build problems:
configure silently fails in the absence of automake and friends
(a surprise, since if a configure exists, it typically means that
the automagic has been accomplished) ...
configure.in not found from subdirectory build ...
make seems to hang while "checking make type" ...
make seems to generate a whack of bash shells (-j 9??)
Mind you, I was running this on a busy FreeBSD server running QEMU which
was doing a 16 part upgrade of the Windoze XP OS (automatic updates), and
hitting GIANT quite frequently, but a dual celeron at 2.6GHZ and 2GB
memory is a fair bit of hardware for a build and a single emulation ...
I'll try and get back to you when/if I manage to compile it with a list of
defects/repairs ...
