WINDOW: Unable to connect to X Windows display: localhost:10.0

Hi,
I am using windows and connect to a linux server over a VPN. On the linux s=
erver I initiate a screen and start an idl session in the screen. My idl s=
cript takes several hours and whenever I want to access and use idl session=
, I login to linux sever and go to the screen and reach the idl session.

'Sometimes' I get this error when I execute any idl script in the IDL sessi=
on that is in the screen.
=20
 Compiled module: $MAIN$.
% WINDOW: Unable to connect to X Windows display: localhost:10.0
% WINDOW: Unable to open X Windows display.
Is your DISPLAY environment variable set correctly?
% Execution halted at: $MAIN$ 1
   /net/orbit/home/idlscriptname.pro
  o
the idlscriptname.pro does not open any x terminal. It is just a bunch of i=
dl lines.

If I restart the IDL session then everything works fine again until the nex=
t error message that can happen anytime when I login to the linux sever ag=
ain.
Any solutions.

There are IDL commands that require the display to be active, even
though they don't plot anything (a list of these might be a useful
resource...). If you switch to the Z-buffer, they won't try to launch X.

WIDGET_BASE: Unable to connect to X Windows display: :0.0
Hi guys, I'm trying to run a program in a remote machine. I logon to remote machine (LINUX cluster) from my home desktop. The problem I've got is: WIDGET_BASE: Unable to connect to X Windows display: :0.0 WIDGET_BASE: Unable to establish X Connection. I tried somethings like: ssh -X or set DISPLAY, but still same problem. My question is how to get rid of this problem, or turn off X windows in IDL scripts. Thanks much! This question keeps recurring. See, for instance, http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.idl-pvwave/browse_thread/thread/78= ef8d5f35d9bbef http://groups....

copy from windows and paste to X window using Exceed 9.0.0.0
Hi, I am having trouble copying text from a windows application to an X window rendered through my Exceed X Server. For instance, copying some text from notepad and pasting it into an emacs session that is running on a remote server, but is rendered through the Exceed X server on my laptop. All of these types of copy/paste work fine: from a windows app to another windows app, from an X window to another X window and from an X window to a windows app. The only one that doesn't work is going from a windows app to an x window. The "Copy and Paste, and X Selection" se...

IDL 6.4.1 and X Windows with OS X 10.5.7 and ssh
I was sent to this group by David Fanning because he didn't know anything off the top of his head about my issue. I just updated to OS X 10.5.7 the other day without any problems at all. IDL still worked perfectly and I continued my research like normal. Today I decided to work from home and ssh into my mac at work. My X11 is working fine (if I type 'xclock' at the terminal the xclock pops up), but if I try to use any graphics commands in IDL (plot, tv, etc.) then I get a 'bus error' and IDL exits. David Fanning answered a question like this previously (http:// www.dfa...

Can't connect to X11 window server using 'localhost:0.0'
Hi. I'm using sendmail 8.12.9 for a project on RedHat Fedora Core 2 on my personal computer with a perfectly finctioning X window server. Part of this project requires me to modify sendmail to open a gui application. When I attempted this originally, I got the following error: "No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation which requires it." Figuring that sendmail for whatever reason unset it, I added called setenv() to set it and got the following error: "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 wind...

Unable to create X windows Window is iconified and has no backing store...
Hi - I'm just playing with some color tables and issued the following command: TVLCT, cgColor('Green', /Triple), 4 and got the following message. % TVRD: Unable to create X windows Window is iconified and has no backing store, nothing read. This message is annoying, but seems to have no consequence as the color is indeed loaded at the correct place in the color table (as verified by using CIndex). What's happening? I'm running IDL 8.2.3 on a Mac under OSX 10.8.5. Thanks. Barry Lesht writes: > Hi - I'm just playing with some color tables and i...
