Applet performance (URL.openStream)
Hi I've got an applet that performs two functions. One is a URL redirect which takes 10 seconds (slow development machine), the other does a URL.openStream and reads through the text returned. The URL.openStream call itself takes around 28 seconds, while iterating through 150 lines calling string.indexOf() takes another 15. Any idea why the applet is performing so slowly. I had originally thought that the redirect and URL.openStream would take roughly the same amount of time. Thanks for any and all help. applet security and external URLs
I am developing an applet which loads data (an astronomical image) via a DataInputStream/ BufferedInputStream/ FileInputStream from an URL URL myurl = new URL ("http://host/file") So far for testing I've been using a file residing on the same host where I'm working (this host is also an apache web server). I'm invoking the HTML page calling the applet either from appletviewer or firefox. Now I wanted to use a file on a remote host (the production apache web server). The remote host is where the actual files already reside. Currently they are "protected" b...

URL.openStream in an applet causes NBNS name query
Hi, within an applet I do an url.openStream() and that works, i mean I get the correct response. But immediately after calling the method a NBNS name query is sent to the remote server. That seems to be a NetBIOS request at post 137 (according to ethereal) , but I don't want to do anything with netbios or something. Because the remote port 137 is closed (and that is ok) the request is refused (with port unreachable) after the timout and the client tries it about 10 times. After that i get the response of my original request. Although my request with openStream() works it takes about 10 s...

Using Real Player to play an RTSP URL from an applet
I have an applet that I'd like to have play an RTSP URL with Real Player when I click on a button. I can use showDocument for http URLs, but it doesn't work for RTSP. I get a malformedURL exception. Does anyone know how to construct a java.net.URL with rtsp as the protocol so I can use showDocument to pass it to the browser and have the browser kick off Real Player? I need the player to play the sound rather than the applet directly so the user has control over what to play (rewind, etc.) Thanks. masonmarc@yahoo.com wrote: > I have an applet that I'd like to have play an ...
