missing Java icon in system control
I downloaded the newest Java from sun.com and it seems to work fine (it's
listed in Firefox' plugin list, and it shows a java icon in the system try
while running a web site containing java calls) except that I cannot see the
Java icon in system control window.
The Java check on Sun's website returns ok, and even reinstalling under my
Vista HP x64 doesn't help. As it isn't listed in system control I can't
deinstall it from the programs list - it isn't listed there. But there is
also a cleanup exe at Sun's which really seems to deinstall Java, because
Java sites didn't work any more, but reinstalling Java still produces the
same effect - all is working fine, except the icon in system control and the
entry in the programs list
Any idea what I could try to do?

Sorry, no. It works fine for me. If it's Vista, make sure that the
permissions that you installed Java under match your current user
permissions. The only thing I can think of is that your user doesn't
have permission to view the Java controls. Try running as administrator
or switching accounts.

If you are using non-classic layout, click Control Panel : Programs
and look at the very bottom.

I mean the word proof not in the sense of the lawyers, who set two half proofs equal to a whole one, but in the sense of a mathematician, where half proof = 0, and it is demanded for proof that every doubt becomes impossible.
