Java Developer looking for the engineering side.

  • Follow

I have been working for a couple of years mostly in the Web/Business
world type system. Basically, I work(ed) with J2EE/JSPs/Web stuff like
that. I am finding I am more geared towards the engineering side, I
really like working with J2SE and doing TCP/IP/network programming and
non-J2EE development. Are there jobs out there for plain java
programming as opposed to the XML/Java Bean shops we have today?

I am thinking I may just switch my role to Python or do at least a pure
java on linux shop.

Anybody in the same boat?

:-)

I'm in the opposite situation - lots of plain old java SE work, looking
to move EE work simply because it appears 90% of job ads require J2EE.

As for what the non-J2ee work is like - its the same. Sure you don't use
the entity beans, servlets etc. but the fundamental Java code you write
is the same.

It might be that what you will find is a place where they need your J2EE
experience to help integrate their legacy systems. This integration can
include, tcp/ip, CORBA, SOAP, RDBMs, etc.
