design engineer capable of designing and implementing extreme scale
client and server software.

The lodging development team is looking for a talented C++ software
design engineer capable of designing and implementing extreme scale
client and server software. The architecture leveraged forms the
backbone of the Expedia offering connecting customers and hotel
reservations systems around the world. Lodging applications are
designed to handle many millions of transactions a day, billions of
rows of data and run in a real-time 24x7, global, environment so
robustness, scalability, and reliability are critical.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement powerful, highly scalable, and reliable client
and server applications.
Translate functional specifications into logical, component-based
technical designs.
Interact with Development Lead, Program Managers and Test Engineers to
contribute to and review functional specifications and test cases.
Resolve defects in your own and other=92s code.
Contribute to advancing the team=92s design methodology and quality
programming practices

Qualifications:
Extensive experience in C++, Java and Microsoft Databases on Windows
platforms.
Strong understanding of optimal performance in C++
Extensive experience with design concepts, development frameworks and
SOA architectures
Experience with related technologies such as AJAX, JavaScript, XML,
DHTML, XSL, IIS, and SQL
Strong experience with algorithms and data structures, multithreading,
concurrency, caching and scalable/distributed systems
Middle tier to backend experience in web servers and back end servers
preferred in large scale environment.
Knowledge and experience with agile/iterative and object-oriented
methodologies, notations, and processes
Strong understanding of technologies and product suites commonly used
in technology solutions
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
High initiative and self-motivated
Must be able to articulate their experience with, problems with
proposed solutions
Perforce experience strongly preferred, but other similar tools (CVS,
Source Depot)
Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to
detail
Strong written and oral communication

Work Experience and Education Guidelines:
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
Minimum 5 years experience developing software applications

Core Competencies:
C++ coding and design, debugging, multi tasking, self management
