### Prevent Java getting local IP?

• Email

Does anyone know how to prevent a Java applet from getting your IP

How does Java actually obtain your IP? I have the code for doing this
but I'm interested in the actual mechanics behind it.

Is there any way to fake your own IP in order to "trick" Java into
getting a false IP?
Is it possible to disable the InetAddress.getLocalHost() function?

Getting DCT Coefficients from JPEG File using Java ?
I'm currently doing some development in Java and I need to be able to extract the DCT Coefficients from a JPG file. I've done some research and found that Java does include a JPEG Decoder (com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.*), but I'm not sure how I could leverage this to grab the DCT Coefficients. It is my understanding that I would have to first, for each 8x8 block, decode the huffman values, decode the RLE values, decode the DPCM values, and undo zig-zag coding. I'm just not sure how I could get this concept into my Java program. Thanks! -Jackson ...

Windows Vista SP1 client not getting ip address from 3750
Last year, I configured a dhcp pool on a 3750 switch for a lan party at work(I work for a university and part of the students activities). No problems all worked fine with Vista. It was time for the lan party again at work. I put the dhcp pool back on the switch but the Vista clients would not pull an ip address, but when I did a sh ip dhcp binds it showed their macs were bound to the ip addresses. The Vista client all had auto configure 169.254 addresses. I tried some things, googled and got some registry hacks we tried for the tcp system parameters but no luck. I took my Helium...

Accessing local LAN via Public IP address, Port Forwarding
Apparently, I am finding out that this does not work with Linksys routers. I have a befsr81V3 broadband router. I have a device, 192.168.1.7, that needs to send a reply to 192.168.1.12, BUT, because of the way the 2 devices work (VOIP), the reply would go to the public IP address (static) of the router. These replies are *not* being port forwarded back to the LAN. I know some routers handle this. Apparently not this router, but, I get differing answers from Linksys "tech support". Please do not try and say try DMZ, that poses different issues and it not workable no matter what! So...

If you do that, you can let them communicate. The easiest way to...

Java encryption
I'm reading textual data out of an SQL Server 2005 database. This works fine as you'd expect, however, when I attempt to decrypt encrypted String data read out of the database using the Java cryptography classes I get the following error: javax.crypto.IllegalBlockSizeException: Input length must be multiple of 8 when decrypting with padded cipher When I manipulate the Strings locally, encrypting and decrypting them back, everything is fine. The seems to be some hidded problem with the Strings extracted from the database. Any one got any ideas? One theory I have concerns the fac...

Local optimization?
Hi Folks, It seems local optimization techniques are discussed in several undergraduate level books on compilers. I'd like to get a feel for how relevant they are these days. Are they only of historic interest or do any of them still make their way into modern compilers? If they're simply of historic interest, at what point did the move to their global counterparts take place (how recently could they be found in production compilers)? Cheers, John [It is my impression that even after you do all your whizzo global optimization, a local pass is still worthwhile to deal with redundant i...

local variables
Good day! I'd like to construct some strings (actually, names of TIKZ nodes / coordinates, but my problem is independent of TIKZ). As they should be constructed in a consistent way, I'd like to use a macro (\getposname) for this task. In this macro, I'd like to use something like local variables. Unfortunately, it is not obvious to me, how to achieve this. The following minimized example shows the problem: ---------------------------- \documentclass{article} \begin{document} \def\getposname{% \def\dummy{foo}% comment this line to get \coordinate to work ...
