It is not possible directly. Somebody with access to version 8.5 needs to save it for version 8.2.

Hi Sreenivasulu,These errors are probably because you did not convert the project to 8.2 in addition to the VI's. I don't think you need to have the original project, just create a new one yourself, add the target you need (CompactRIO or R-series board), and add the VI's to the project. Lastly, you need to delete and replace the I/O nodes on the FPGA VI and the FPGA VI reference on the host VI.

Can LabView 8.5 read LabView 8.5.1 VIs
Since LabVIEW 8.5.1 is only a bug fix, can LabVIEW 8.5 read any VIs generated in LabVIEW 8.5.1? Simple answer YES. But it will the VIs compile so it is a good idea to make a mass compile in the folder where the VIs are. ...

How can I run a labview 7.2 vi in labview 8.2
We have several versions of labview running different test and control functions in our facility. There are labview 7.2 VIs in a production setting I wish to reproduce in the test lab. Can I convert them to run on 8.2 or do I have to recreate them in 8.2. I tried to open one in 8.2 and got multiple SubVI's that were not in my program library.. most dealing with AI manipulation. And make sure you have backup copies of your 7.x code. Once you load and save in 8.2, it is a lot of work to get them back to 7.x. Note I used 7.x because I am unaware of LabVIEW version 7.2 even existing. 7.1.1 was the last release prior to 8.0 ...

labview 8.2 to 8.5?
I have an older version of labview (8.2) and wanted to know if i could update it to the current version without having to buy a whole new system. Are you asking if there are additional costs to upgrading from LV8.2 to LV8.5? If that is asking, the answer is yes. You can purchase a Standard Service Program (which is typically included for the first year), which means you automatically get upgrades. The other option is to go to this link: http://www.ni.com/labview/ and select upgrade. You then enter your serial number and it should tell you how much to upgrade to 8.5 and/or to a more complete version of LabVIEW. A third alternative is to contact your local NI representative with whom you can discuss your LV sw / upgrade needs. Here is the link to the SSP program: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13351 R Message Edited by JoeLabView on 07-31-2008 09:49 PM ...

Opening VI written in labview 5.0 with version 8.5
Hi, I am new to Labview. I have VIs to capture the Tektronics real time scope waveforms written in Labview 5.0. I am currently using is evaluation version 8.5. I am getting an error that the new version does not support these old files. I just want to open these files and look at the code for reference. Can anyone suggest a way to open these files. Thanks, Chakradhar One way would be for someone to open it in a version that still supported it and is supported by LV8.5. For instance, if you post the VI(s) (and hopefully not too many of them), I could open and save them as LV7.x. Hopefully nothing gets broken to this stange and the VI could then be opened and saved to LV8.5. R Thanks a lot for your offfer. I have a .llb file which has a group of files and one vi files. It will be very helpfull ... Thanks in advance. Scilab Gateway under Labview 8.2 and 8.5
Hi Newsgroup, i am a Labview Starter and working for a longer time with Scilab. Herefore, the gateway function is a nice tool for me. When i create a VI with the Scilab Gateway, it works really perfect under Labview 8.2.1 (Jubilee Edition), but under Labview 8.5 the VI seems to be not correct. The "Run"-Arrow is displayed broken, nothing works. Funny Effect in Labview 8.5 beside: In a few cases i've seen the effect, that my VI works just one time, then never again ? Have i done mistakes while installing anything. Or are there hidden registry entries ? Best Regards Andreas Did you also install the scilab gateway files in the 8.5 program folder after installing LabVIEW 8.5? Activate labview 8.5 with version 8.2.1 installed
I have a system with labview version 8.2.1 installed. Now we have got a new version, 8.5 witch I have also installed, with the same serial code. When I want to work with version 8.5 it asks to activate, but version 8.2.1 works the way it used to be. Did I instal it wrong? Upgrade insted of a new installation? Or should I unistal version 8.2.1 before installing version 8.5? As Matthew mentioned, all versions need to be activated. There is no reason to uninstall a previous version, you should actually keep it around in case you run into some upgrade issues. Your start menu should have a link to the NI license manager. Several attendees requested LabVIEW 8.5 data for the benchmarks I showed at my NI Week presentation - TS1284 - Reference Objects in LabVIEW. In addition, the severe performance degradation seen in Datasockets going from LabVIEW 7.1 to 8.2 was an artifact of my testing environment. I have fixed it and now actually see a performance improvement. I have updated the presentation and zipped it and the test code in the attachment below. I also tested in LabVIEW 8.5 with the following results, which can be compared to the presentation (same experimental setup).10,000 DBL read/write cyclesMode - Time (ms)Global - 7.6Single Process Shared Variable - 12.8Network Shared Variable - 1980Datasocket - 10700Configuration VI - 745Control Reference - 2440GOOP 1.0 - 2000LV2 Global - Semaphore - 294LV2 Global - Action Engine - 13.7Single Element Queue - 41.4Read of 1MByte BufferMode - Time (ms) Global - 0.000300 Single Process Shared Variable - 0.000309 Network Shared Variable - 0.125 Datasocket - 7.05 Configuration VI - 168.0 Control Reference - 0.000726 GOOP 1.0 - 0.00538 LV2 Global - Semaphore - 0.00295 LV2 Global - Action Engine - 0.00161 Single Element Queue - 0.000314Performance is generally worse if launched from the project rather than opening the test VI directly. Note that the network shared variable must be used from a project. As expected, the network shared variable is much better. The global is 50% faster for scalars than i...

labview 8.2 crashes on opening a specific VI
Hi all - I really hope you can help me on this, because this problem is rather bizarre. I have a VI that opens fine and runs fine. It's a rather massive VI, with upward of 30 subVIs. If I open the VI, save it (even without making any changes!), close it, and then repeat that process a few times, on average about the 4th time I try to open it, LabView cannot display it; my CPU usage jumps to 50% (corresponding, I think, to maxing out one of the two CPUs), and Labview becomes unresponsive (and the front panel never shows up, and I can't ctrl-E into the block diagram). This, of course, makes it rather difficult for me to edit the VI. It seems like the file is corrupt, or something of the sort, so what I really need is some kind of workaround on making a not-corrupt copy, because re-writing it would be a huge pain. Thanks, Natalia P.S I'm not sure if posting the VI would do any good, since so much of it is various subVIs. I am also quite certain that there is not anything wrong with the code. Are you able to open the VI? If so, select the entire Block Diagram and copy everything into a blank, new VI. See if that helps... Strange things do happen. In the past, there were bizzare "insane objects" which were resolved by copying the block diagram into a new blan vi. Saving it, and everything was fine afterwards.. Let us know ...

LabVIEW 8.5 crashes when I try to open this VI
A few days ago i was making changes to this VI for programmatically fitting the waveform graph to a pane on front panel. I was able to make some changes to the code successfully, saved the file and closed LabVIEW. But today i am not able to open the VI and LabVIEW crashes without giving any error codes. There is too much work put into this main vi and it will take a long time to reproduce it. Please HELP!!! Main.vi: http://forums.ni.com/attachments/ni/170/313985/1/Main.vi Yup, it crashes. I would recommend that you go back to your last backup and work from there... What's that? You don't have a recent backup? Hmmmm.... Consider this a lesson learned... Yet another good reason for source code control - daily backups.Mike... Crashes for me as well I am afraid, But it is a pretty sad state of affairs that we have become so accustomed to corrupted VIs/projects. When was the last time you came across C code which brought down the IDE when loaded?I have to say, 6.0, 7.0 and 7.1 (the other versions I have worked with), were far less prone to random shutdowns and corrupted code. Does NI have a way to salvage these corrupt VIs? There were only a few changes made towrds the end of the editing cycle and we should be able to discard those changes and retrieve the rest. I hope someone says yes :smileysad: Maybe someone with Labview 8.6 beta can open it.... In general there is no way to recover a corrupt VI. Even if a later version c...

Labview 7.0 Vs Labview 8.2 Issue?
Hello, For a independent study Labview class I'm taking, I am trying to create a program that will input two different wav files and combine parts of them together for audio output. The first file I am trying to cut out the bass lines and replace them with the bass lines from the second file. Kind of like turning the second file into a karaoke version and filling in the vocals with the vocal line from the first file. A second option is simply taking the instrumentals from a song (a wav file containing only the bass line) and adding them to the first file after cutting out the original bass line of the first if this isn't possible. I found the attached file while searching for information/examples as to how to do this - it was originally posted at:http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=74618&requireLogin=FalseI tried running the file in Labview 8.20 and it came back with the error that "Build Screen.vi not found." I have searched for this file to download but have come up with nothing. Also, any tips/pointers/comments (or "there is no way this is possible") are much appreciated and very welcome. I have been searching to see if there is anything like this that has been done before and as of yet haven't been able to find anything. I am running LV8.5. I am upgrading and/or converting an old legacy system. All I have is the disk with the VIs from the old system. I do not have an older version of LV installed. I can install all the way back to version 5.1. But I am concerned, can LV8.5 convert 5.1? The real question is what is the earliest version of LV that 8.5 will convert and will that version convert 4.0.1? I have to imagine this has been done. With all the legacy systems going obsolete. This should be a common need. Thanks for all of the responses. I have about 500+ VIs to convert. I would not be able to post them because of the nature of the projet but thanks for the suggestion. I have to imagine that someone in the office has 8.2 still floating around. I do not want to go back to 6 or 7. I will hunt for an older machine in the AM. Maybe a good job for an intern. Thanks Dave ...
