Why is my GPIB interface dead after installing LabView 6.1 when upgrading from LabView 6.0.2
We installed LV6.1 on our Win2000 machine. GPIB interface no longer
works. We had been using LV6.0.2.
Did you try to use MAX to check your GPIB interface? Click "F5" to
Refresh the system if you can't see the GPIB interface. If you can see
the it, try to run NI 488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard under
Help->Troubleshooting to test the interface.
Yes, I used MAX. The GPIB card shows up there. So does the GPIB
instrument. I tried to test the interface with the communicate with
device button. The query just timed out. We un-installed the GPIB
card and then re-installed i...How to open Labview 8.5 VI in Labview 8.2

It is not possible directly. Somebody with access to version 8.5 needs to save it for version 8.2.
Could you attach that particular vi in your post so that somebody can save it for 8.2
Or you can install Labview 8.5 demo. Works for 30 days....

Hello,I was working on a project at home with labview 8.21, I nearly finished this project but I addes some stuff at school where they have labview 8.5.Today I wanted to open the labview file on my computer, but It gave an error:
labview load error 9: Vi version 8.5 is newer then labVIEW version 8.2.1.Is there any way I can open the file on my computer?Or can I save the file at school als a 8.2.1 file?
thnx in advance,Seppe
Hi Seppe, just save it in school using "Save to previous" from the file menu...
You'll have to reopen the file on a computer with LV 8.5. From there you can do a Save as Previous Version to save back to LV 8.2.1
Hi Seppe, if you have LabView 8.5 you can save your vi for previous verions (8.2.1 and 8.0)Mike

Costello, you can update the VIs within the LLB to LV 8.5 if they do not have their blockdiagram removed.....hope this helps,Norbert
How can I update ? When I start the .vi in the lbb he dont found somme .vi located in DAQmx (wrtie.lbb, start task.lbb,...) How can i install this lbb?
Costello, if you get loading errors when opening one VI from the LLB like you the ones you get, you have missing components.Since you spoke of DAQmx, i asume that you didn't install NI DAQmx on your machine. You should catch that up.hope this helps,Norbert

Since LabVIEW 8.5.1 is only a bug fix, can LabVIEW 8.5 read any VIs generated in LabVIEW 8.5.1?

...How can I convert the "AI one pt" symbol from LabVIEW 6.3 to LabVIEW 8.0?
I've got an assignment with LabVIEW and I work with LabVIEW 8.0. The program I work with is written in LabVIEW 6.3 and had to be converted to LabVIEW 8.0. That went very well, except for one symbol. The "AI one pt" symbol (see enclosed figure) turned into an empty box (question mark). My question to you is how can I overcome this problem, or how can I simulate this symbol with LabVIEW 8.0?
With kind regards,
Graziano is right about this. To make it completly clear: The block you refer to as a symbol is a VI belonging to the Traditional NI-DAQ driver. Currently there are two drivers for DAQ boards: DAQmx (the new one) and Traditional NI-DAQ (the old one). Since your VI was written in LabVIEW 6.x (6.3 never existed) the VI uses the old driver. What you need to do is: install Traditional NI-DAQ on your PC to get the support VI's for the driver in LabVIEW. This Traditional NI-DAQ installer should be on the driver CD which was delivered along with LabVIEW 8.0 or you can download it here:

i am on my labview working with 8.5but at work, we only have labview 7.0.what would be my best way to get my vi to be 7.0?thank you so muchMessage Edited by krispiekream on 06-19-2008 03:59 PM
In order to go from LV 8.5 to LV 7, you will need to have LV 8.5 (save it back to 8.0), LV 8.0 (save it back to 7.1) and LV 7.1 (to save back to 7.0).
If it's only a few small VI's, you can post them on the forum and ask someone to do the saves for you. (Best if you do the save back to 8.0 and post that in order to eliminate 1 of the 3 steps for whoever will do the rest of the conversions for you.)
yeah. great.. i did all those steps.i went from 8.0 to 7.1i dont have labview 7.1 so i can't go to 7.0.can someone please help me.
Please try the attached to see if it works with LV7.0
Hopefully it does!!
thank you so much. i'll try it right now.

...upgrading cRIO from Labview 7 to Labview 8
Hi again :)
I have a cRIO system that is running Labview 7. It runs fine. No problems. We've upgraded to LV8 and I'm wondering if I should convert the LV7 system to LV8. The only reason I would do this is because for me LV8 is much easier to work with regarding cRIO (using DMA, setting up the project etc.).
Now, if I attempt to upgrade the LV7 cRIO system, what kinds of problems will I run in to? I assume it means formatting the cRIO, installing LV8, converting the program from LV7 to LV8...
Is there an FAQ regarding this, specifically about the cRIO?

Several attendees requested LabVIEW 8.5 data for the benchmarks I showed at my NI Week presentation - TS1284 - Reference Objects in LabVIEW. In addition, the severe performance degradation seen in Datasockets going from LabVIEW 7.1 to 8.2 was an artifact of my testing environment. I have fixed it and now actually see a performance improvement. I have updated the presentation and zipped it and the test code in the attachment below. Hello, yesterday was a nice day, I have receved the NI Developer Suite

I still use Labview 7.0 (Developer Suite Professional Control Edition)
Unfortunately I can't install the Toolboxes from the toolbox cd into

I started using SPC toolkit for a project in Labview 8.2.1, had no problem until I upgraded my system to labview 8.5. It said something like: Some subvis are too old to be converted to 8.5.I went to the Labview Developer suite CD album (labview 8.5), and couldn't find the SPC for LabVIEW, only for LabWindows / CVI. Then I went to NI's website and tried to find more about the toolkit, it seems this one had disappeared into thin air, along with the Enterprise connectivity toolkit (or Enterprice toolkit).Does anybody know if NI stopped developing / supporting the SPC toolkit? Or if NI included it into other toolkit or product?Thanks,-Joe
it could be that there are some vis from LV5. So i think if you save the vis which are to old to use with LV8.5 with 8.2.1 then it should work.
It is included with the DSC module in 8.5.
Got it! Thanks! -Joe
sorry for a silly question, but I tried to locate the LabVIEW DSC Module 8.5 in my Professional development environment and I cannot find it.
Would you please tell me which disk is it on?
It doesn't come with the pro version. As mentioned, it comes with the DSC which is an option for the Developer Suite or you can buy it separately.
I am sorry for confusion, I have full Developer Suite, Professinal Development System, inside 11 CDs.

I am a new user for Labview. I installed Labview 8.0 from the CD (evaluation copy). I was just testing the sample code provided by NI. I opened the "Load from File and Display" example and I was trying to open the properties for the Read Labview Measurement File component when Labview crashed. I tried it a couple of times and everytime it happens the same way (when I double click the component or right click on it).

Hello, For a independent study Labview class I'm taking, I am trying to create a program that will input two different wav files and combine parts of them together for audio output. The first file I am trying to cut out the bass lines and replace them with the bass lines from the second file. Kind of like turning the second file into a karaoke version and filling in the vocals with the vocal line from the first file. A second option is simply taking the instrumentals from a song (a wav file containing only the bass line) and adding them to the first file after cutting out the original bass line of the first if this isn't possible. I found the attached file while searching for information/examples as to how to do this - it was originally posted at:http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=74618&requireLogin=FalseI tried running the file in Labview 8.20 and it came back with the error that "Build Screen.vi not found." I have searched for this file to download but have come up with nothing. Also, any tips/pointers/comments (or "there is no way this is possible") are much appreciated and very welcome. I have been searching to see if there is anything like this that has been done before and as of yet haven't been able to find anything. I am pretty new to Labview but I am a quick learner and I have a professor working with me on the project that is very familiar with Labview. However, it's spring break right no...LabVIEW 8 does not close ref's the same as LabVIEW 7!?!
I have been struggling with a difference between LabVIEW 7 and 8 in how the Close Reference functions for Active X objects. In order to fully understand the problem, let me first explain the process of how I got here.
I have an application in beta testing and we noticed a huge memory leak in LabVIEW 8, 8.2. I took a snippet of the code and worked on it a while to reduce the memory leak. I was closing every reference and could not explain it so I wrote the same code in VB and saw no memory leaks. I implemented the same code in LabVIEW 8 and still saw a memory leak. The code opens a graph control from a third party vendor and draws it. Each time the graph is drawn in LabVIEW 8, it costs about 30-40k. We have 8 graphs in our application bringing each iteration to 240-320k. The users are going to be reviewing between 96-384 samples in one sitting but we have no control over when the program quits. 384 samples reviewed in the graphs is 92,160k as a minimum. I was frustrated and about to send it to the thrid party vendor, AB Sciex, but they only had LabVIEW 7.1. So I converted it back to 8.0 and then to 7.1.1. I ran the code in 7.1.1 and there were little to no memory leaks! I even tried it in LabVIEW 7.0 and it worked the same as 7.1.1.
I monitored the memory of LabVIEW through the task monitor in Windows XP. I have tried it on a few XP machines and a 2000 machine and same answer on all. I also built a Task Monitor tool using .NET to graph the memory of the LabVIEW proce...Re: LabVIEW and LabVIEW RT?
I will try to illustrate it with an example since it all will depend on the type of application you would like to implement. Let's say you would like to implement an application where you log data, maybe exchange data with databases and you acquire a bunch of data points at a time not performing any type of control and where high determinism is not needed. In this case LabVIEW for Windows work great. If you on the other hand would like to implement a closed-loop application where you need high determinism and reliability and will acquire data point by point you would use LabVIEW RT which is an add-on to LabVIEW. I.e. you need LabVIEW + LabVIEW RT when developing an RT application.
...Installing the 8.2.1 run time engine on a system with LabVIEW 8.2 installed
Note: This is a <a href="http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?showtopic=7942" target="_blank">cross-post to LAVA</a>. If I have a system with LabVIEW 8.2 installed and I upgrade only the
RTE to 8.2.1 (leaving LabVIEW 8.2 installed) will I run into any
problems?- Will applications that I build in LabVIEW 8.2 still run correctly?
RTE will applications that I build in 8.2 require? (I'm presuming that
the 8.2.1 RTE upgrade will not touch the lvapp.lib stub used by the app
builder and that apps built in 8.2 will run in the 8.2 RTE)
Here is what I (think I) know: - The
8.2.1 run time engine (RTE) is an upgrade to the 8.2 RTE, meaning that
the 8.2 and 8.2.1 RTEs cannot be installed at the same time.
built using LabVIEW 8.2 will run in the 8.2.1 RTE, however apps built
using LabVIEW 8.2.1 require the 8.2.1 RTE and will not run in the 8.2
Has anyone attempted this?Thanks,
Anything that we product that is X.X.X is mostly a bug fix release, and so you are correct in that it installs over X.X (your example 8.2.1 installs over 8.2 and so it is not possible to have them installed at the same time separately). It also means that there is a good chance that you can interchange VIs and projects without a problem, but it is not guaranteed.
This means that applications built in LV 8.2 can run using 8.2.1 RTE, and LV 8.2.1 applications can probably run with 8.2 RTE, but it is highly recommended to have the same ve...If i have a labview .vi file(and labview) but i want to open it in a computer that doesn't have labview, how would i do it??

...Installation problems with NI-Sync 3.0 and LabVIEW 8.6
I'm trying to use NI-Sync 3.0 with the PXI-6682 timing and GPS board. However NI-Sync VIs that functioned under LV8.5.1 are broken with LV8.6, and NI-Sync no longer shows up in the Block Diagram Functions Measurement I/O menu. Have NI-Sync functions been moved, deprecated, or just not yet supported in 8.6? Or is the NI-Sync installation procedure different with 8.6 compared to 8.5.1?
Did you see this thread <a href="http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5728" target="_blank">http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5728</a>
It is likely that you have Ni-Sync enabled to support LabView 8.5.1 currently and it does support a single version of LabView at a time. You might want to reintall it and this time make sure that the version of LabView for which you specify support during installation is LV 8.6. Hope this helps.
I am having the same LabView 8.6 and NI-SYNC 3.0 compatibility issues. It appears to me that no released version of NI-SYNC will work with LabView 8.6.
I received a pre release of NI-SYNC 3.1, which fixes the DAQmx Serial Number Property Node problem for PXI-665x cards. However, NI-SYNC 3.1 broke more things that it fixed, at least for me on LabView 8.5.1.
So I uninstalled everyting National Instruments, and then did a clean install of LabView 8.6 and NI-SYNC 3.0. It appears that NI-SYNC 3.0 and 3.1...LabVIEW 8 Installation
Hello LV friends.
After installation of LabVIEW 8.0 on my PC, I cant start all my previous executables, build with LV 7.0 and LV 7.1 They dont run on the same PC! Also after reinstallation with installer of LV 7.1 (and RunTimeEngine) takes no effect. Everytime I like to start one of my applications, an error message appears:
"Executable version (7.1.1) doesnt match resource file (7.1). Check your configuration."
Any help or ideas?
Hello!I have found a potentially solution, please try it with LV 8:This problem is
most likely due to a corrupted or incomplete LabVIEW 7.1.1 Run-Time
Engine installation. Since the Run-Time Engine is needed to run LabVIEW
executables, this installation will have to be repaired. To repair the
LabVIEW 7.1.1 Run-Time Engine, complete the following steps:- Go to Add or Remove Programs
- Select National Instruments Software and click Change
- In the National Instruments Software dialog window that appears select NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1.1 and click Repair
Note: In Measurement & Automation Explorer the LabVIEW Run-time Engine 7.1.1 will not appear under the Software folder. To verify that the software is installed check under National Instruments Software in Add or Remove Programs. One
way this can occur is when creating installers using LabVIEW
Application Builder that include the Run-Time Engine. If the installer
is created from LabVIEW 7.1 and then run on a machine with LabVIEW

We have several versions of labview running different test and control functions in our facility. There are labview 7.2 VIs in a production setting I wish to reproduce in the test lab. Can I convert them to run on 8.2 or do I have to recreate them in 8.2. I tried to open one in 8.2 and got multiple SubVI's that were not in my program library.. most dealing with AI manipulation.
And make sure you have backup copies of your 7.x code. Once you load and save in 8.2, it is a lot of work to get them back to 7.x.
