labview 7.1 to Labview 8.0 upgrade

Greetings all,

My company has recently aquired labview 8.0 licences and is intending to use it as its development platform instead of labview 7.1. the problem is that all of our customers are currently running executables generated in a labview 7.1 environment and any updated versions of our software that we will send them in the future will most likely be developed in labview 8.0. The question is , other than sending them the executables generated by LV8 along with LV8 RTE are there any problems. did any one see a problem with a conversion like this. i have done alot of reasearch about this and have been testing the converted code from 7.1 to 8 and the executalbes generated by 8.0 and i havent seen any major problems. any feedback on a related probelm would be greatly appreciated.

Open LabVIEW 8.0 files in LabVIEW 7.0
Hello, I have developed an application in LabVIEW 8.0 and built a standalone executable just to realize that I have to deploy it in a Windows NT computer that is not compatible with LV Run Time Engine 8.0 that only supports Windows 2000 and XP. I have tried to open the labView files (*.vi) using LabVIEW 7.0 but it gives me an error. Is there any easy and clean solution to import these files in LV 7.0 in order to build a new excutable and make it compatible with Windows NT? Regards, Toni ...

upgrading cRIO from Labview 7 to Labview 8
Hi again :) I have a cRIO system that is running Labview 7. It runs fine. No problems. We've upgraded to LV8 and I'm wondering if I should convert the LV7 system to LV8. The only reason I would do this is because for me LV8 is much easier to work with regarding cRIO (using DMA, setting up the project etc.). Now, if I attempt to upgrade the LV7 cRIO system, what kinds of problems will I run in to? I assume it means formatting the cRIO, installing LV8, converting the program from LV7 to LV8... Is there an FAQ regarding this, specifically about the cRIO? Thanks, Jeff Thanks, I think our latest CD is LV8.01 or something like this. Since we have the subscription, I usually wait until I receive the CDs. ...

labview 8.5 to labview 7.0
i am on my labview working with 8.5but at work, we only have labview 7.0.what would be my best way to get my vi to be 7.0?thank you so muchMessage Edited by krispiekream on 06-19-2008 03:59 PM In order to go from LV 8.5 to LV 7, you will need to have LV 8.5 (save it back to 8.0), LV 8.0 (save it back to 7.1) and LV 7.1 (to save back to 7.0). If it's only a few small VI's, you can post them on the forum and ask someone to do the saves for you. (Best if you do the save back to 8.0 and post that in order to eliminate 1 of the 3 steps for whoever will do the rest of the conversions for you.) yeah. great.. i did all those steps.i went from 8.0 to 7.1i dont have labview 7.1 so i can't go to 7.0.can someone please help me. LabVIEW 8.0 changed a constant that was wired to a Case structure to a hidden control to maintain compatibility with LabVIEW 7.1 and earlier.
Y am i getting this msg? Hi, muks, This happened because "...LabVIEW does not compile code on the block diagram that does not execute. For example, LabVIEW does not compile any code that exists within the inactive subdiagrams of the Conditional Disable structure. In addition, LabVIEW does not compile code within a Case structure that has a constant wired to it that would not execute the case with the code..."In the other words, if you have case structure, which is wired to T/F constant, then prior to version 8.x both cases will be compiled. From version 8.x the only "executed" case will be compiled. So, LabVIEW replaces constant with control for ensure that both cases will be compiled as before. refer to this document best regards,Andrey. ALL 8.0 LABVIEWers!! Convert 8.0 VIs to 7.1
Hi there. This is another "Can somebody help me cause I'm desperate?" kind of post. I am using the brand new 8.2.1 version and I have to submit the prog by the 8th of January. After using 'Save for previous version' I have only managed to "degrade" it to 8.0 Thus - Could somebody convert the attached zipped VIs to version 7.1 or any other that would work with Labview 7 ? I have not used any new modules/functions e.g. instead of using the new x^2 (squared) triangle I have used the old 'to the power of x' function with a two etc. The sigma.vi is the key one - if u dont manage to convert all of them just pack the converted ones, preferably checked. Thanks a whole lot! M sigma Folder.zip: http://forums.ni.com/attachments/ni/170/222639/1/sigma Folder.zip I have suffered this recently where I opened a 7.1 project in 8.2 went to a client site with the code and could not do anything since I only have 7.1 and 8.2 on the PC I am working on. Very frustrating. I can help you possibly later when I get my laptop back in the office with 8.0. NI is not considering us who have subscriptions but skipped 8.0 but use 8.2 and 7.1 extensively. Labview 7.0 Vs Labview 8.2 Issue?
Hello, For a independent study Labview class I'm taking, I am trying to create a program that will input two different wav files and combine parts of them together for audio output. The first file I am trying to cut out the bass lines and replace them with the bass lines from the second file. Kind of like turning the second file into a karaoke version and filling in the vocals with the vocal line from the first file. A second option is simply taking the instrumentals from a song (a wav file containing only the bass line) and adding them to the first file after cutting out the original bass line of the first if this isn't possible. I found the attached file while searching for information/examples as to how to do this - it was originally posted at:http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=74618&requireLogin=FalseI tried running the file in Labview 8.20 and it came back with the error that "Build Screen.vi not found." I have searched for this file to download but have come up with nothing. Also, any tips/pointers/comments (or "there is no way this is possible") are much appreciated and very welcome. I have been searching to see if there is anything like this that has been done before and as of yet haven't been able to find anything. I am pretty new to Labview but I am a quick learner and I have a professor working with me on the project that is very familiar with Labview. However, it's spring break right no...

How to save in labview 7, from labview 8
Need to open my LV 8 VI in LV7, due to different plattforms... How do I make it possible? Hi, You will have to save out your VI using LabVIEW 8 first, select the Save with options. Then you can select the previous version, which probably is 7.1. ( You will have to repeat the procedure using LV7.1) If you have used any of the new functions and featured in your VI(s), then these will be lost when you save backwards. Hope this helps Regards Ray Farmer Hi Ray, 1) I was just trying your advice on my system and I don't see 'Save with Option' . There is Save, and Save As.. 2) I have a llb file and I wish to know which version it is...how can I find out? (I'm using 8.01). I suspect it is 7.1 and I get bunch of errors when it opens. 3) If the vi is 7.1, will LabView automatically convert it to 8.0? Thanks Rafi p.s. I'm mainly a CVI developer, and apologize for the "basic" questions... Rafi, Thats the trouble when you dont have labview in front of you. Looking at the manual chapter 7-7, there should, be under menu item File a 'Save For Previous Version'. I think under the VI Properties, under the change history, you should be able to find out what version it is. LabVIEW will try to convert automatically, but there are some issue that it cannot cope with. The release notes should identify these. Regards Ray Farmer ...

Why multihreaded soft worked under Labview 7 but is slower under Labview 8.2.1
Hello all ! I have a multithreated software developped under Labview 7.0. Under this version, multithreading can be enabled/disabled via the options menu / performance & disk section. This is not present under Labview 8.2.1. My software works properly under LW7 but is slower under LW8.2.1...how can I configure labview and or my vi to make it running as well as under LW7 ??? Is there a "hidden" option to enable/disable multithreading under LW8.2.1 ? Thank you for your help remi To disable multithreading, add ESys.StdNParallel=0 to the ini file. Did you save the entire hierachy under 8.2.1 after conversion (of course after making sutable backup copines of the 7.0 version ;)). Freshly converted, but not yet saved code runs typically much slower. Also, what do you mean by "slower" 10% slower, 10x slower? How do you measure speed? Thanks for your quick answer altenbach. The tips given at this link will really be useful to me! It seems that I made a wrong conversion of the files...fortunately I made suitable backup of the 7.0 version :smileywink:. Would a LabVIEW 8.5 Executable play nice with LabVIEW 7.1 Development on the Same System?
Our testing computer right now just has the user run the corresponding .vi file since we have LabVIEW 7.1 installed on the computer. If I use 8.5 to compile this .vi to an executable, I realize that I must install the run-time support for 8.5. My question is what effect will installing the 8.5 run-time have on the ability to continue to run the other 7.1 VIs with LabVIEW 7.1. Should I be concerned with losing MAX settings when installing the run-time support for 8.5? I want to be able to run 8.5 executables but also able to open up a 7.1 .vi file in LabVIEW 7.1 and run it that way also. Thanks for your help! I have 8.5 on my system and the idea is to slowly replace the running of the .vi files with .exe files, I was just curious in case my .exe doesn't work I can still run the tests with .vi in the mean time. Thanks for your help folks! ...

Problem upgrading a Labview Project from 8.0 to 8.5.1
Hi, I have two laptops - Laptop 1 has Labview 8.0 on it, and Laptop 2 has Labview 7.1.1 installed. I've just upgraded Laptop 2 to Labview 8.5.1 and copied all of my Labview 8.0 files over from Laptop 1. I did a mass compile on Laptop 2 and all the vi's work great. I've opened up a Project that I copied over from LV 8.0 and it looks like the Installers are ok. However, when I open the Properties on any of my Applications (EXEs) all of the Information is blank. When I type in the "Build specification name" and use the same name as the one I opened, it tells me that that name already exists. Does anyone know why my Application is blank? Thanks. Steve Hi Steve, Does the .exe file that has blank properties function correctly otherwise, and was that .exe one of the files that you mass compiled? Could you zip and post your project so that I can try to reproduce the problem? That way we can see if the problem is in your system, or with the .exe itself. Also, do you want to change the properties of the .exe? If so, what changes do you want to make? Regards, Stephen S. Thanks for the reply. Over the weekend I re-copied my Project from Laptop 1 to Laptop 2 and it was ok - I was able to build the EXE without a single problem. Steve ...

Why is my GPIB interface dead after installing LabView 6.1 when upgrading from LabView 6.0.2
We installed LV6.1 on our Win2000 machine. GPIB interface no longer works. We had been using LV6.0.2. Did you try to use MAX to check your GPIB interface? Click "F5" to Refresh the system if you can't see the GPIB interface. If you can see the it, try to run NI 488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard under Help->Troubleshooting to test the interface. Can I run a LabVIEW 7.1 Application on a system with LabVIEW 6.1?
The VI App did not run properly, even after I installed the LabVIEW 7.1 Run time engine. Perhpas I need to uninstall the LV 6.1 run time engine? Thank you for any suggestions; perhaps it's something minor that I'm overlooking! Are you talking about a 7.1 exe or VI? An executable will run with 6.1 installed and the 7.1 run-time. A 7.1 VI will only run with 7.1 development system. When you say it did not run properly, what exactly do you mean? I am referring to trying to run a 7.1 EXE application on a system with a resident 6.1 development environment, and the 7.1 run-time engine ins...

write labview measurement file, and lost Y-axes
I had a program that worked perfectly well in Labview 7.0 and now have encountered problems trying to migrate it to 8.0. One of the problems is the "Write LVM file" express VI. The VI is now called continuously, presumably each time the program while loop is iterated. In the previous version, the Write LVM File VI was only called once at the start, as I wanted it to be. I imagine I need to change the loop structure in my program, but I don't know how to. Another problem is that I seem to have lost the Y-axis on some of the waveform charts. When I right-click on the plot the Y axis is greyed out and I see no way to get it back. Can anyone help me? Thanks. (Small rant: As you may be able to tell I am hardly a knowledgeable LV programmer and I am finding these migration issues very difficult. Is it not possible to retain some consistency in simple functionality between different versions?) D'oh. Here they are.
