passing files into labview vi by opening the file

I have a labview exe that is installed on XP that can create/save
files with an extension not recognized by windows. The files can be
opened from within the exe but what I want is to double click(open)
the file from explorer/desktop and have it opened in my vi. I know how
to associate the file with windows so opening it will open the exe,
but how do I pass this argument into my exe so my app can use it?

Thank you, That's what I needed. I wasn't sure how to read from the
command line once I passed something in.

Converting .VI file from Labview 6.1 to Labview 7.0
I have .VI file that was working fine under Labview 6.1. However, after Labview 7.0 is installed, some of the subvis are not working. When I clicked into my .VI, it says it is searching for AI Read One Scan.vi. I also have AO in the .VI. So far, I could not find the new name or function of these two? Is there any way, I can have smooth transition from version 6.1 to 7.0? I do not want to find each question mark in the older version .vi to convert the new version of module. Any help, appreciated. It sounds like you didn't install DAQ support. There is a second CD called Device Driver...

write labview measurement file vi appends file when overwrite selected
I am using the Write Labview Measurement File Express VI in a subVI with the overwrite file option selected. The first time I call the subVI it works fine. Each call thereafter the file is appended rather than overwritten. I am having similar problems with the Read Labview Measurement File VI. It works the first time called. Every call after the first results in error 4 (EOF error) as if the pointer never gets reset to the beginning of the file. Thanks for the help, that's how I ended up getting around the problem. I am still confused why I can't just overwrite the file when I se...

File::open and File.open
What exactly is the difference between these? :: is a class method while is an instance method??? If that is so, could someone clarify this with more detail? I use File.open, but File::open works too. However sometimes, this is not the case which adds to my confusion :) For example, I can only do Digest::MD5.new() and not Digest.MD5.new() why is that? I don't fully understand OO programming... perhaps this is my problem. Thank you for your time. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. Windows installer prompts me to install labview each time I try to open a vi file
Hi Anyone experienced this problem before? Its getting annoying Goy Hi Goy, I've seen this problem happen whenever I've removed any of the files that get installed with LabVIEW...I've also seen it happen when a DLL that gets installed with LabVIEW is overwritten with a DLL of a different version. My best suggestion would be for you to go to Add/Remove Programs, select National Instruments Software, select LabVIEW from the resulting list, and choose the "Repair" option...this replaces all LabVIEW files with the originals from the LabVIEW installer (so use this option with caution if you have purposely modified anything that installs with LabVIEW, like VIs from vi.lib). Other than this, I'm not sure what the problem could be...you may have some other program/installer that is attempting to remove or modify files that were originally installed by LabVIEW. Good luck, -D Hey Darren You might just be right. I fiddled with some example vis. Lemme try tomorrow. THanks :smileyvery-happy: Goy ...
