Problem with data acquisition from two AI channels (error -50103)

Hello,

Although there are some discusions about this topic I couldn't fix my problem. I am able to read and display  the pressure data from a single channel as you can see in singlechannelDAQ.vi. But now I need to read and display the pressure data from the second AI channel. First I thought it could be so easy that I just copy and paste the same code and run it. But the result is error -50103. Then I understood the cause of the problem. (With multiplexed data acquisition boards (E-Series and M-Series), only one analog input and one analog output task can be run at the same time. This is the case because all analog input channels require use of the same channel multiplexer and sample clock.) I found some solutions in this forums and adapted my code (twochanneltry1.vi) but it didn't work as well. There are also some solutions which offer to sample, read the first channel then stop the task and do the same procedure for the second channel. It doesn't suit to me , I think because I acquire the pressure datas in a while loop and it should stop when I press the stop button. I hope I could describe the problem clearly. I also want to display the results in two different graphs. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ahmet

Thanks Dennis Knutson and TonP for your replies.  I couldn't try this code with my DAQ card yet, but I don't expect any problem. It works fine with the simulated signal perfectly and solves my problem. But I have a question. What would be a solution, if I had wanted to configure one AI channel as RSE and the other channel as differential. Now we use differential configuration common for both channels, in this case we couldn't.
Thanks for your concern.

If you want different terminal configurations for the channels, then you use separate DAQmx Create Channel functions.

Buffer problem for continuous acquisition from two channels.
HiI need a VI where I am acquiring samples from a CTR period measurement channel and an anlog input channel. I want to continually acquire samples from them, and I want the samples I acquire from each channel to be synchronized. The VI I attached shows an example of what I want to do.In the VI, I am sampling the analog signal at 300 Hz and reading 300 samples in each loop iteration. I also want to know the period measurements over that same time period of 1second. I made a test program that would generate a signal that had periods of 5 ms, so I should read 200 samples from the CTR in each loop iteration.&nbsp; This way, the samples I am acquiring in each loop is associated with the same timeframe.Sometimes the program will lag because i am running other things in the background because the OS will devote more processor time to other tasks. I thought this would be okay since the samples would just build up in the buffer and eventually I would be able to catch up by just reading from the buffer. However, I discovered that when the program lags, only the analog buffer seems to build up, while the counter buffer remains at 0. This means that all the CTR samples have been read while some analog samples have not been read, which shouldnt happen if I'm synchronized. II would think that both of the buffers would build up together, (ex: If my program stalls for exactly 1second, then the analog buffer would be 300 and the counter buffer would be 200). Why don't the buffers ...

Error -200019 by data acquisition of 3 channels (no external clock)
Hello, I have a question and hopefully somebody can answer it. Technical details:&nbsp;&nbsp; Labview 7.1, PCI 6220 and a/d converter BNC-2111 Problem: I made a continous data acquisition with 3 physical channels. The problem is in choosing the sample rate. At a rate over 84000 Hz there is the Error "-200019" and I dont understand why. Is it a hardware problem or a software problem? &nbsp;I dont think its a software problem because the example works fine with a rate under 84000 Hz. Then if I choose 2 physical channels i can use a higher rate (over 120000Hz) but the same problem happens at a special rate. Maybe the hardware is not good enough? What can it be? We want a data acquisition of 3 channels with a rate of 100000 Hz. And of course I read some examples in the discussion forum but they dont helped me. And no i dont use an external clock. ;D Thank you for answer my question. The 6220 has an overall samplingrate of 250kS/s. So acquiring more than one channel reduces the samplerate per channel. The maximum samplerate per channel isoverall samplerate / # channels. So in your example:250kS/s ...

Data Acquisition problem with multiple length of commands and data received.
Hello, I need to write a program to communicate with a Data Acquisition board. There are about 10 commads and each has a different number of bytes associated with it. For example command-1 has 4 bytes which need to be send to the DAQ, command 2 has 6 bytes, Command 3 has 4 bytes etc... When the board responds back to the commands I send, it responds back with different number of bytes for each command. For example, When Command 1 is send to the board, it responds back with 3 bytes of data, whereas when command-2 is send it responds back with 5 bytes of data. Each data byte received by my labView program from the board, needs to be displayed after some processing has been done. This processing may or may not happen on all the bytes of data got back. I want the program to be scalable, so that if more commands are added later on, the display and the processing changes in accordance with that. What will be the best approach for such a system ? I want the system to be dynamic, and dont want to repeat or re-write the code for each case statement ( case statements will be decided by the commands). Any input is welcome. Thanks, birapxi It doesn't sound much different than what has been done for thousands of instrument drivers. With only ten commands, you can write a subVI for each. At <a href="http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/" target="_blank">http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/</a>&nbsp;you can find infromation on how to develop a driver. Hello...

Sending two sets of data to simultaneously output on two channels...
LabView 8.2 PCI-6115 CardI am attempting to output voltage defined by two 1D arrays of doubles (each 250,000 points) from a PCI-6115 card. Each array needs to be output on a separate channel (DAC0 Out &amp; DAC1 Out) so I entered ac0:1 but now need to know how to "feed" these two arrays into the one DAQmx write object. So far I have tried sending them as a single 2D array, a single 1D array (concatenated), and joined as a cluster, and nothing seems to satisfy DAQmx write. The DAQmx write object is set as a "Analog 1D DBL 1 Channel N-Samples" type. I am feeding these same two arrays into a front panel graph to verify the validity of the data (it looks good). I have also successfully output both of the arrays (to an oscilloscope) one at a time over a single channel so I know I am missing something simple here. These two arrays will be output continuously (only updating when the user makes changes to the front panel) at the full speed of the card (2.5 Million samples per second per channel) for maximum resolution. Any help would be appreciated and any other information required is available on request. If anyone can tell me how to combine my two arrays of doubles, send them to a DAQmx write, and have them output on two different channels, I would be greatly appreciative...Thank you, taipanPS - This is my first experience with LabView so insider lingo may be lost on me... ...

Labview Data Acquisition
Hello All, I'm an undergrad studying physics. I'm trying to write a LabVIEW VI that will set and monitor the flow rate of a single channel of a MKS 247C. The device can connect directly to my computer via a DB9 serial cable. Do I need a DAQ board to do this? As far as my background goes, I've done a few introductory LabVIEW tutorials, but I've never attempted to connect anything to it. Also, I have some experience with computer programming. Can anyone give me advice on how to go about connecting to the device, or point me to some helpful tutorials? Regards, Danny Neumann Not sure what an MKS 247C is, but since it connects to the serial port, then no, you do not need a DAQ board. Based on this, it seems you use the serial port to get data from the device by using the communication protocol for the device. What you actually need is an instrument driver that allows you to send commands to the device and get data from it. Over at the NI Instrument Driver network there don't seem to be drivers for that particular model, but there are for the <a href="http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=2BB9C56416B865F2E0440003BA7CCD71" target="_blank">647</a>. Have no idea what the differences are. You can also try to see if the manufacturer has any drivers so you don't have to try to write them yourself, although doing so is not too difficult. Check with the manufacturer first. If they don't have a...

Multiple FPGA loops to solve 8 channel AI / 4 Channel AO with PID compilation problem
I've got a challenging FPGA project that I'm working on and I was hoping the community could help me out.&nbsp; I have a 9014 with a 8-port backplane and I'm using a 9205 (configured for +-1V measurement) for AI and a 9263 for AO.I have a custom circuit that modulates (using the AO line) the voltage applied to the thin-film device (i.e. to heat it up).&nbsp; In order to calculate the highly dynamic resistance of the device we measure the voltage across two fixed resistors.&nbsp; Using some network algebra, I can obtain on-the-fly resistance.&nbsp; I can do this with one device (read, calculate, go through PID, and write), but the trouble is that I want to do this with four or more devices.&nbsp; The hardware is there (many AI's and four AO's), but I can never get my FPGA code to compile with more than one loop.I have to do this on the FPGA (the math part) because I also have incorporated a PID loop to hold the device at a certain resistance (so, for example, airflow through or across the device will not affect the heating). The thermal response of the thin-film devices have time constants of &lt;100 ms (Apply 10V, the device heats to steady-state in 40-50 ms).&nbsp; I'd like to sample at least twice per millisecond at a minimum, but of course the more the better.Attached is the "single device" FPGA code (FPGA One Shot) that works (ugly original version that compiles successfully also included FPGA Orig).&nbsp; I...

how to read channel for channel and appended data for appended data?

Re: How do I access the channels of a 40 channel single-ended multiplexer 34908A module that inserts into the 34970A Data Aquisition Unit throught the LabVIEW software. #2
Hi Dennis (and others) &nbsp; I am using the loop and scan list method shown in the .jpg file to read channel 3 of my 34901A module using 34970 DAQ unit (I am using the 2nd slot), and am using an external DMM (Agilent 3458A)&nbsp;since my 34970A does not come with an internal one. &nbsp; My question is- a) In the loop in your picture, the Loop node of the for loop is not connected to a constant/control to set the number of loops to be run. I am assuming that's because it was a snapshot so it was not a necessary detail. &nbsp; b) I connected a constant of&nbsp; "3" to the "Loops" node of my For Loop, however, I get only 1 reading. I am using the Write LabView measurement file Express VI to gather data and this VI is inside of the for loop. &nbsp; I don't understand why I get only 1 reading instead of 3. I observed the program using highlight execution and also using the "i" of the for loop to check how&nbsp; many times the loop runs, and it runs only once instead of 3- can you please help me know why? Eventually I want to run 2 wire measurements on all 20 channels. &nbsp; Your help is appreciated! Thanks!!! ...

Real time data acquisition and display with Data Acquisition Toolbox
Hi everyone, I have recently come up with a Matlab program using the Data Acquisition Toolbox that will read in voltages from a force transducer(ATI) via a National Instruments box. I display a sine wave (red) and then the force is collected and plots on the screen (white) along with the sine wave. I've minimized the code running between getdata and plot, and it appears that the time between plots is about 100 ms. I've made the display rate 100 or 120 ms, and it seems to be plotting in "real time" as much as I can tell. If I run the trial for 30 seconds, however, it seems to slow down around 22 seconds or so, and then there is perceptible (around 3 seconds or so) delay. My question is whether or not the DAQ codes can actually display real time data. I've been told that Matlab can't do this because it's a compile-as-it-goes software, however, it seems that the DAQ commands are designed to stop background processing etc... so my hope is that this will work. Also, Does anyone know how I could assess the time delay so that I could report it in a manuscript in the future? Thanks for any help, Bree It is possible real time processing, for example my speech osciloscope in matlab http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz4Rp71weYo In real time it is need to use bufer. The delay is defined by buffer lenght. Then more buffer length then biger delay. But too small boffer will not work. ------------------------------------ Maxim Vedenev, Matlab expe...

Data acquisition logging problem
Hello, After months of using the Data Acquisition toolbox (R14, ver 2.5) to collect signals from my National Instruments AT-MIO-16E daq card (Windows 2k machine, plenty of RAM), I am now having trouble with my data acquisition. Briefly, the data does not appear to be logging correctly to memory. A simplified version of my code appears as follows: scxi = analoginput('nidaq',1); addchannel(scxi,0) start(scxi) .... at which point the Engine status appears to be 'Logging' indefinitely and ultimately hangs. The 'samples acquired' remains at 0 the entire time. Changing the...

Data acquisition time performance problem
Hi. My LabVIEW program aquires data from USB, processes the data and shows the calculated result on the screen. The program is separated into two while loops. The first one aquires data and puts it into a queue, whereas the other while loop fetches data from the queue, processes it and publishing the result. The idea is that the loops shall run indepently and use the queue as a buffer. My problem is that data is sometimes lost, probably because the aquisition process is starved by the rest of the program. The data aquisition process must be run every 30 ms. I have tried to find a typical example on how to build such a system but haven't found one. There is a lot of information on multithreading, but using it in a practical example shows up to be more difficult that I thought. Does someone have any advice on the basic idea to make such a system work. ...

Two AI and AO + saving data
Hello! I am working on a student final project: Hot Probe measurement. I have a DAQ 6024E card. I need to measure voltage and temperature (K thermocouple) and then be able to save data in excel or at least text format. Also I want to display temp. while measuring&nbsp;on 7-seg displays: I have four 1-digit displays. I&nbsp;am thinking about controlling them by two AO of the card - gives me 4 options overall. I need to measure a TC sample and display it on 7-seg, but since there&nbsp;is only 1 digital port - I can set only 1 digit at&nbsp;the time. So by combination of 2 AO I set proper digit and now need proper number from temp sample - 1 of 4 digit number I get from TC. I hope it?s not all too complicated. &nbsp; Resources: DAQ 6024E Labview 8.2.1 4 one digit displays K-type TC &nbsp; Any help appreciated !
