I'm trying to write a CORDIC macro for a polar transmitter FPGA design.
I've used the parallel approach, but when I do a timing estimation the
longest delay path is through the CORDIC routine, and limits the
maximum clock rate of the whole design to about 40MHz. Other parts of
the design on the same board need to run at much faster rate so I'm
considering using a bit-serial version.
As I understand it, the bit-parallel implementation has low latency and
therefore high throughput, but because of the the word-wide shifts it
clocks at a slower rate. Conversely, the bit-serial...von neumann programing lang; functional-level programing
Ok, today's Wikipedia learned me few things.
One is the term =E2=80=9Cvon neumann programnig lang=E2=80=9D
effectively, that's those of C, C++, Java, sh, perl and the bunch of

In short, =E2=80=9Cvon neumann programnig lang=E2=80=9D are those modeled o=

I was reading your message and its sounds good to me.Infact I was looking around some hints for the same problem.
I am thinking to use a device called 'Temote Invent' (Wireless sensor device;control platform TinyOS/Cygwin ) (for more info:<a href="http://www.moteiv.com/products/tmoteinvent.php" target="_blank">http://www.moteiv.com/products/tmoteinvent.php</a>) and I need to control this device using LabVIEW!! Could you tell me which is the best way to do this?(Application is remotely patient monitoring).
Another thing is I am thinking to use a robot head and controller (More info. is given below) in my research application. The manufacturer will provide the SDK (API) for this. My question is is it possible to control this device using Lab View??Please say some details.

...serial error -1073807202 LabView 7.1 can't communicate with USB-serial adapter?
I can't get LabView 7.1 to read data from the serial port. If I use the original examples, the examples given hier, VISA or not, I just get the error -1073807202 straight after the Configure vi.
Is it possible that LabView just can't communicate with Serial<->USB adapters?
The configuration should be correct: Everything is default, except for the baud rate. It is 38400 bps. Also, I *can* read characters via Win32 CreateFile() and friends. It also works with Hyperterminal. I use WinXP Pro if that matters. And yes, I use the correct COM port (COM4), I always verify that in the device manager.
The error means that you don't have VISA installed. It's on the device drivers CD.
thanks very much for your help.
Installing the VISA driver did the trick.

...Serial Communication using LabView
I am trying to communicate with a mass flow controller using LabView - serial comm (RS232). The communication works fine with Hyperterminal so I know that both the COM port and the instrument is working fine. I have LabView 8.2 on my office pc and I tried "Basic serial write and read.vi" to communicate with the instrument and it worked fine. Now, I have LabView 7 on teh lab machine and I tried running the same program on Labview 7 and it gave me an error saying this program was written on a more recent version of LabView and it cannot run it.
Then I tried writing the same program myself and the program complied fine on Labview 7, but it did not write to the instrument at all. The problem is the string control (not the CF and LF characters). I tried running my program on LabView 8.2 and itstill didnt write to the instrument, until I copied the string control from "Basic serial write and read.vi" to my program. But my program with the the string control from "Basic serial write and read.vi" still doesnt run on LabView 7. Could anybody tell me what the difference is between the string control used in "basic serial write and read.vi" and the one provided by Labview 7? Also what can I do on LabView 7 to write to the instrument?
I would appreciate any help at all.
Hi sr1857, there should be no difference. I think the labview 7 version has also the "basic serial rea...Re: serial port in labview

Write/Read RTS(pin7 of serial port) signal.
have a look at the VISA property node.
Start with the bytes at serial port on your diagram and select the modem line of your choice and decide if you want to read or write the value

508-647-...Serial Communication between labview and max232
Im new to labview and the max232 ic chip too..
See previously i was using a basicstamp2 ic chip to transmit codes to a robot.
The basicstamp2 ic chip requires coding for serout and all that stuff.
whereas for the max232 we are going to use, has no PIC.
So all it has to do is transmit the codes when labview tells it too.
i did find an example Basic Serial Write And Read.vi
I am using a RS-232 cable.
Can anyone tell me if this is enough for a serial communication between labview and max232?
The IC called MAX232 is just a level converter.
Your computer uses a voltage level of about +/-11 or some thing close to it for the serial port communication. However most of the micro controllers use TTL level which is +5 for a high bit and 0V for a bit low.
So this Max232 will help you convert the computers logic levels to micro controllers logic levels and vice versa. The duty of the Max232 is to make it possible to communicate between different logic levels. So it does not need any special code to get the communication done other than what you need to send.
Hope that helps !
Yeah one more thing, you need to get the connections right. Connecting a wrong tx/rx pin of the Max232 to the PC / TTL device will kill the chip.
So you need a microcontroller too. I like Atmel's AVR ..
Thanks for the help. So deepu ur saying i just have to use example like a visa to...Add:Strange serial communication requirement

n...Re: Space Requirements For SAS Programs
This method of estimating seems all too academic to me. If you are looking at a SAS program library, why not count lines in a randomly selected set of program files? If you are estimating the number of lines executed from a SAS program (in the SAS program vector) the count of lines in SAS program files may grossly underestimate that number (due to loops and SAS Macro calls) or overestimate it (due to conditional execution of blocks within programs). In SAS procedure calls, the number of lines of text in a program doesn't correlate well at all with program complexity.
Further, I've found that the sizes of SAS program files tend to be a small fraction of the storage space needed for data. So what dimension of SAS "code" are you trying to estimate and what do you hope to do with the estimates?
One OT aside: I'd bet that SAS programmers would put a lot more comments in programs if they were being paid by the line.

Subject: Space Requirements For SAS Programs
I took SAS code with a little less than 5000 lines and the size of this text file is slightly over 100KB.
If we take a conservative estimate and say that for every 5,000 lines, we require 150KB of SAS code, then one megabyte of SAS code - 1,000 kilobytes - would contain somewhat over 30,000 lines of code. (The formula is 5000/0...Re: [LogoForum] Re: Hi! I like a logo programming and teaching to program for students.
