SMTP Email Send Message Error

When I using SMTP Email Send Message in Labview 8.0 to send an email message and I get a error message as bellow:

Error 16500 occurred at 500 5.5.1 Command unrecognized: "MIME-Version: 1.0"
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  (Hex 0x4074) 500 Syntax error, command unrecognized. For example, the command line might be too long.

Where the mistake and how to solve this error to send an email by Labview 8.0.

Thank you.

I did some digging around in the SMTP Email Send Message code and the MIME version 1.0 command is the first one issued to the server to set up the email communication, so it sounds like it might be a server problem. Try checking the server to make sure it is up and running okay and then try the VI again.
A couple of people have had this problem, and almost every time it is a server side issue. Let me know if this helps.

Dear Tyler H.

- Can you give an example of SMTP?

- How to check the server?

- How I know that server are running okay?

- How to set up the email communication?

- Can Labview 8.0 send SMS to handset?

Thank you.

A couple of things. If you don't know what mail server you are using, you definitely need to get a hold of a network administator to see which one you use. Checking the mail server is a thing specific to the mail server itself, in other words there is no specific way that applies to them all. The example below requirs FDS 7.0 so if you don't have full developement system, it won't work. The handset question would be a great one to ask in another thread. I suggest also searching our website for information on that one as well. Hope that answers your questions.

From what I have found this error means that the server does not recognize the command. This means that there is probally something going wrong on the server's end since MIME is a communication protocol that almost all mail servers recognize. You might want to look into the mail server and verify that MIME is an appropriate protocol to use (it should be).

In addition to the other comments on this thread, keep in mind that emails sent by your application may be filtered as spam, in which case you may have to talk to your IT dept to classify the program as an approved sender.  If you list the "from" as something like {program name}@{company.com} that might work with IT - that's what I've done in the past. -----------Greg

Are you sure the server that you're using isn't using SSL? I don't know of any email servers that don't require authentication, but I'm sure there's some out there. They're far less common because they can be used as SPAM relays, and are sometimes blacklisted. SMTP returns sockXXX error when sending large emails
Hi, On a Windows XP Pro box I have a strange problem when using the smtp package to send large emails or emails with large attachments (>70KB not all that big really). The problem seems to be related to the Trf package that is loaded inside the smtp module. If I remove the bit about Trf and try to send I can send huge files wiht no issue what so ever. Has any one ever seen this OR have any idea why this is happening. I have no problems emailing large files using Outlook or Thunderbird on my system. I currently using the iocpsocket package but the problem orignally was happening with the standard Tcl socket at a much lower payload (>10K). The error is as follows: 400: error writing "iocp508": invalid argument I had Pat Thoyts look at the issue and he's recommended using sockspy to debug the problem but when I put sockspy in the loop the problem went away. Also, I noticed that when I enable the -usetls option it does not encrypt the message as it's sending so I'm also wondering if this may have something to do with the issue. Like there is a package missing but no documentation to help you figure this out. Now Pat Thoyts swears that this all works fine for him on his Windows XP box but I have yet to see it work for me. I've tried it on both my desktop and my laptop with the same result. I'm baffled. Any help would be very much appreciated! smtp send message.vi has a wrong send time
I am using labview 7.0 with internet toolkit. When I tried to use "SMTP send message.vi" to send alert message, I got the wrong DATE field. The time is off by a hour. I would suggest looking at your computer's DST settings - perhaps you have set the clock ahead but not turned on DST. If so, the conversion to GMT and back will not be correct. Email SMTP, trying to send to internal smtp server.
I am working with a outside programming to configure our AS400 to send messages to employees at our company. Right now using snddst command I am able to send messages outside our network. I am not sure what the programmer turned on and has running, but I can't get anything to be sent to internal accounts. Currently the name of AS400 is as400.ourdomain.com and we have an exchange.ourdomain.com I would like to use to send the messages to. But nothing goes through these smtp servers. Do I need to turn off smtp, I not sure if pop is running? or MSF? Any pointers. Thanks, Kevin Well the SMTP server has to be running to send e-mail. You only need the POP server running if you want to receive e-mail. The MSF server needs to be running if you need to use DIRE (I Think?). When I woke up my SMTP server I could only send internally and had to Tweak to get outside our LAN. Hopefully you will get some other reply's? I think that that is sendmail talking. Sendmail is not set up correctly. Sendmail runs in two modes for security. The root mode is only used for handling network traffic.
