text control box

This is going to be an easy question, but it's been troubling me for a while.
I have a boolean switch which activates a true/false program. I want a text box to appear, saying ."please select approopiate input" (or something like that). If the user clicks ok, i.e. selecting the input, the boolean swicth runs the program. If the user clicks cancel, the boolean swicth remains false. I can create the dialog box to appear when the switch is pressed, but when i click ok or cancel, it closes then opens again creating a loop of these boxes. I don't know what to do? Any help wouild be appreciated.

thanks a lot, Tom

Good morning Tom

It sounds like you have the basic functionality of your program.  However you need to set the mechanical action of the boolean to "latch when pressed".
(without your code I can't be certain but it's worth a try)
If you right click the boolean switch you use to bring up the dialog box, select mechanical action, and any latch function should work for you.
This will read the boolean value change once and then reset the switch back to False.
This should solve your problem (if I am picturing your code correctly)

Please post back with the code if this doesn't solve the problem and I will (as I'm sure Altenbach will too) try and find a solution for you.

Thanx

Controlling bold and italic within a text box control
A report requires a line containing author and title. The author is required in bold and the title in bold italic font. Only one space is required between the author and title, which are variable length when clipped. If two text boxes are used then the correct font setting can be assigned to each control but the spacing seems to be fixed. The "Can grow" "Can shrink" attributes only seem to work vertically not horizontally. Adding Combo Box Text To A Text Box
I have a combo box and a text box on a form. When I choose a value from the combo box, I want it to be added to the textbox. I'm able to do this by using the following code when I click the combo box: Me!Textbox = Me!TextBox & Me!ComboBox I now need the additional combo box items to be added on a new line in the text box each time I click the combo box. After the number has been entered the PartDescription and the PartPrice should show up in the other respective text boxes. I will be linking to a table that includes 3 columns labeled PartNumber, PartDescription, and PartPrice. For instance, if I enter "12345" in the PartNumber text box then the description of the part along with its price should appear in each of their respective text boxes. If PartNumber 12345 is a Washer that costs 0.75 then The PartDescription, and PartPrice should read Washer in PartDescription text box and $0.75 in the PartPrice text box. In other words I need some code or method that upon entering a PartNumber in the PartNumber field finds the record referred to and then returns the value other columns in the table. Renamaing Text Boxes or Controls
Should text boxes or combo boxes be renamed on bound forms? In other word should the Department Name property be the same as Control Source property? I never rename them, but my IT manager seems to think they should be. My IT manager is afraid he will be updating the Department column, when he is trying only display a value in the text box without changing the value in the table. tomlebold@msn.com wrote: >Should text boxes or combo boxes be renamed on bound forms? >In other word should the Department Name property be the same as >Control Source property? >I never rename them, but my IT manager seems to think they should be. >My IT manager is afraid he will be updating the Department column, >when he is trying only display a value in the text box without >changing the value in the table. I think your IT manager has the right idea for the wrong reason. If you assign a value to a bound control or its field, regardless of their names, you will change both of them. IMO, you should rename a control whenever you reference it in a control source expression or in an event procedure. A common practice is to prefix the field name with three characters that indicate the type of the control. E.g. a text box bound to the field ABC would be named txtABC. In general, if a name could be either a contol or a field, a reference will be to the control, but, personally, I don't want to rely on that. Note that a control source expression can not refer itsel...

Control Source on a Text Box
I've created some fields that calculate future dates. The way they are set up they do not save to a table. This is the expression I used (=DateSerial(Year([IFSPOrginal]),Month([IFSPOrginal])+6,Day([IFSPOrginal]). I placed it in the Control Source property. I want to save them to a table so I can use them on a report. So the 2 questions are: 1. How do you use a calculated field that doesn't save to a table in a report? 2. If you have to save it to a table to use it in a report, where do I put the expression so it does the calculation other than control source property? You may assume that a report can be built on a table only. That is not the case: you can use a query as source for the report. That happens to be frequent use. > So the 2 questions are: > > 1. subqueries in text control boxes
I am programming a client service dbase in access 2000 for a non-profit health clinic. I want to create a navigation menu that can show varying numbers of command buttons with varying captions, driven by data from a table. 1. First, the user selects a "client" by code. This opens a navigation form which offers command buttons for each of the services the client is enrolled in, e.g., nutrition, pre-natal care, drug treatment, etc. There are 10 possible services, so there are ten buttons, all invisible until a count of client services is established (from a table, where each of the services has its own index). If the client has 4 services, then buttons 1 through 4 become visible. So far, so good. I am able to get that to work. 2. I would like each command button to have a caption that varies depending on the services. Each time the listing the services is generated, the records are numbered consecutively. So I would like to use text control for each command button, where the control source is a subquery to make something which says, (SELECT tService.Service FROM tService WHERE (((tsvcCount.counter)=1))); (or counter = 2 or whatever....) Each command button's caption would be driven by the text appearing in this text control. So far, I can get the text control to accept the syntax of the subquery, but when I view the form, the text control just says #Name? Am I trying the impossible? Is it possible to use a subquery in a text control? Gwindor ...

Selecting text in a text box
When I attempt to select text in a text box, the text from the cursor position to the end of the text is instantly selected as soon as I click the mouse down. There seems to be no way to select just a small portion of the text in a text box. This seems pretty basic. What am I missing? I'm using Access 97 on an XP system. Steve Richfield First, (I don't remember if this is an option in 97) check Tools|Options|Keyboard tab, Behavior Entering Field. This setting will adjust the behavior for all forms and controls. Next, you would need to click at the start of the area you want to highlight and drag over the rest of the area you want to highlight while holding down the left mouse button until you reach the end of the desired text. If you will always want to highlight the same section of text, then in the control's Got Focus event you can select text using code.
