Compatability from Labview 5 to labview 7 express?
I am having a problem where I may have to write a VI on labview 5 on
one computer, then move it to a second computer running labview 7
express. Are there any compatability issues I may have to deal with in
there is not supposed to any compatibility issues with version 5. You
would have a problem going backwards from 7 to 5 but not from going
from 5 to 7.At least that is the way it is supposed to work.
LabVIEW 7.0 will open and convert LabVIEW 5 VI=92s. There are
occasionally conversion issues, just depending on what is involved in
the VI (the bulk of which bein...usb-6215 with labview 7
I'm new to LabVIEW, and am having some problems. apologies for the simplicity of these questions! I've been through as many tutorials as I can, but am still struggling!
I've been given an NI USB-6215 to work with, and labview 7 to work on. first of all, is it possible to use this device with labview 7? my first target is to get a simple datalogger running to collect varying voltages, with a trigger to start collecting data once the input voltage reaches a certain level.
I would be grateful of some help on these matters. is there any example VI's that have a similar purpose?

like to use a USB port vice the parallel port, but have had no luck in
finding the proper care and feeding of the USB port. All I need to do
is send the port binary data from 00000001 to 10000000. I can do it
fine with the parallel port but not USB. Any tips or a point in the
right direction would be greatly appreciated.

We have USB hardware that connects to the PC via the USB port which I
would control by LV.
Does a pll is exiting for this type of application?
I am far from being quaified to answer this, but I can tell you this
Due to the low level nature of USB, LabVIEW has no way of talking to a
generic USB device. If the devices is one of the standard classes
(Human Interface Device for example), then there are Win32 functions
you can call - although I have no clue where these are located. If
not, you almost always need drivers for the device which provide
custom DLLs. If you do not have this th...is this possible in labview 8.2 and the usb daq 6009?
I am wondering if what i am going to do is possible using the usb daq 6009. The aplication is as follows. I need to place a DAQ assistant to run continously in a while loop. Keep it aquiring data and when the signal is above or below a threshold (upper or lower noise levels) to fill an array until the signal goes back to the noise level. When the array has been written with n number of data it should calculate the max min and standard deviation.
I have 4 analog inputs by the way, voltage inputs. the time that takes an object to pass through the sensors is aproximately 2 ms. Is this too fast? I can see the signal when the object passes in the Test window in the DAQ assistant.
I have tried to use the DAQ assistant but it appears that it doesnt have enough time to read the signal, build the array and calculate the statistics it should. So then I created a task from the Measurement and Automation aplication, that consisted of Voltage signals, 500 samples and 1khz. Am i in the right path. I'll upload the VI later. Thanks in advance!
If you think, that my answers are already answered, could you, paste the link in your response please? Thanks!
I created a VI and followed your tips. I can read the signals and see the graph when a seed passes trough the sensors. The thing is that i can catch the max and min values but the standard deviation is affected because the VI ca...Is it possible to use NI USB-6009 with LabView 6.
I wanted to buy NI USB-6009 (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/14605) but I doubt that it is usable with LabView 6.
Is it possible to run this device under LabView 6, and if possible, shall I do sth. special?
If this device does not suit, could I use another NI USB device?
I think the USB devices are only supported by DAQmx, which only has support VIs for LabVIEW 7 and up. You could communicate with DAQmx via the Code Interface just like any other DLL functions. Is there any reason to stick with LabVIEW 6?Ton
>>I think the USB devices are only supported by DAQmx, which only has support VIs for LabVIEW 7 and up.
You could communicate with DAQmx via the Code Interface just like any other DLL functions.
In this case I'll have to use a non-NI device, despite my unwillingness.

Actually, according to the NI-DAQ (traditional) <a href="http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/traditionalnidaq/7.4.4/nidaq_readme_traditional.html" target="_blank">readme</a>, there is some support for USB DAQ devices with traditional NI-DAQ. However, the USB-6009 is only supported by DAQmx, as detailed <a href="http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/nidaqmx/8.7/readme.html#devSupport" target="_blank">here</a>.
...Is LabVIEW 7.1 Aug2005 identical to LabView 7.1 May2005?
I am attempting to have a coworker at a remote site set up their PC with the exact same software as one that I have here. I used the August 2005 CDs from Developer Suite. My coworker tells me that he has the TestStand 3.1, and the Device Driver CDs from the Aug2005 Dev Suite shipment, but he can only find LabView 7.1 from the May2005 delivery.
I would like to safely assume that LabView 7.1 is LabView 7.1, regardless of whether it was shipped in May or August, but it is really important to me to make absolutely sure that we end up with the same software v...Voltage vs. Time Plotting issues - LabVIEW 8.0
I'm trying to create a VI that will log two voltage measurements with respect to time, as well as plot the measurements continously as they're being logged. I'm attempting to do this with an NI USB 6009, using LabView 8.0. I haven't been able to sucessful acheive this, and am open to suggestion. What I've done so far is create to routines for logging the measurements, one which logs based upon for loop iterations, which are controlled by measurement frequency (therefore indirect timing), and is controlled by DAQmx tasks, and one which uses a timed loop and a DAQ assistant. My problem with this approach is that I cannot run both of the routines at once... and of course that they use two separate plots.
I understand the vagueness of my above description, therefore please find attached a copy of my VI so far:
I'm sorry but nothing about your program makes much sense. You cannot use the event structure that way since you don't have it inside a while loop. Do not use run continuous mode!
Pick one architecture - either the lower level DAQmx functions or the DAQ Assistant. I don't think you really need to use the timed loop structure but if you do, the button to stop it must be inside the loop. Instead of a singl...USB joystick and NI USB 6009
i was wondering if there is anyone that can help me on how i will be able to connect the joystick control with the NI USB 6009... below is my vi so far.. Hope Someone can help me with it.. Thanks
USB 6009 Joystick.vi:
http://forums.ni.com/attachments/ni/170/268329/1/USB 6009 Joystick.vi
I would be more than happy to help you with your program. However, it is unclear what the problem is that you are encountering. As I do not have a joystick, I cannot test the VI that you have attached. Is there a specific problem or error with this VI, or are you simply seeking advice on how to improve it?
What exactly are you attempting to accomplish with this VI? I looked at the block diagram but I do not understand what your end goal is. Are you attempting to read the data from the joystick and output it to the USB-6009? If this is indeed the case, it seems as though you would want to connect the data that you acquire with the joystick Acquire Input Data VI to the data input of the DAQmx Write VI. Also, it seems that you would want the DAQmx VIs inside of your While Loop so that you are continuously reading the joystick data and updating the output of the 6009.
I look forward to hearing back from you with more details about your specific application.
...serial error -1073807202 LabView 7.1 can't communicate with USB-serial adapter?
I can't get LabView 7.1 to read data from the serial port. If I use the original examples, the examples given hier, VISA or not, I just get the error -1073807202 straight after the Configure vi.
Is it possible that LabView just can't communicate with Serial<->USB adapters?
The configuration should be correct: Everything is default, except for the baud rate. It is 38400 bps. Also, I *can* read characters via Win32 CreateFile() and friends. It also works with Hyperterminal. I use WinXP Pro if that matters. And yes, I use the correct COM port (COM4), I always verify that in the device manager.
The error means that you don't have VISA installed. It's on the device drivers CD.
thanks very much for your help.
Installing the VISA driver did the trick.
...Looking to use Labview 7.0 to write a TSR program that will detect when I plug in a custom device into the USB port
I want to write a Labview TSR program that will detect when I plug a custom device into the USB port. I will be using a USB/SCI conversion cable so that device will be detected by Windows as a SCI device, but using the USB port. Anyone have example code for this or know how to write a Labview program that performs this function.
There is no direct VIs / functions within LabVIEW that will enable you to detect a USB device to my knowledge. There are ways you can talk to external code like dlls that could be built as drivers for the third party usb devices. Than you can use systemexec.vi to make system calls. The approach that is recommended is listed in the links below. That is using VISA and talking to third party usb interfaces. Please refer -

There are lots of example programs for VISA communication that is shipped with LabVIEW that you can make avail off. Hope this helps.

I am a beginner in Labview. I had to develop a small prototype to read data from RS232. With VISA's functions and labview examples, everything worked fine.
Now I would like to interface some USB devices by using similar VISA's components. In order to acquire skills in USB programming, I would like to build a simple program which for instance would get information on a simple USB device (as a USB KEY, or a USB mouse...).
I already succesfully created specific visa drivers with the drivers wizard, installed them, see them with MAX.
I studied the LV examples USBRawControl.VI and USBRawBulkMain.VI. But I do not succeed in getting any results. I guess I enter the wrong parameters in the example. Can anyone explain me a bit more how it works ? Or give me a set of parameters to test the LV example and get any results ?
Thanks a lot.
There is, imho, no such thing as a simple USB device. For example, the USB mouse will automatically install itself using the windows HID driver so that it can be used as a mouse and creating a VISA driver for it will be be fairly futile unless you get rid of the windows driver and that would not be a good thing. I don't know what you mean by a USB Key.
When a USB device is used that does not use one of the existing classes, you could create a VISA driver and use that instead of the driver that the vendor provides. You would however...Question about usb in labview
I am currently doing a project about designing standalone data
acquisition module with USB 2.0 interface.
For the hardware, a USB FIFO chip(FT245BM) is used to communicate with
PC via USB with the driver DLL provided by the manufacturer (FTDI).
I want to use labview (version 7.0)to develop a data logging software
and I learned that the functions in the DLL could be called by the
'library call function node' in labview.
My question is:
1.Apart from labview, do I need to intall Measurement and Automation

2. I noticed...labview usb BCR
I have no idea that USB barcode scanner is within USBTMC or not

...upgrading cRIO from Labview 7 to Labview 8
Hi again :)
I have a cRIO system that is running Labview 7. It runs fine. No problems. We've upgraded to LV8 and I'm wondering if I should convert the LV7 system to LV8. The only reason I would do this is because for me LV8 is much easier to work with regarding cRIO (using DMA, setting up the project etc.).
Now, if I attempt to upgrade the LV7 cRIO system, what kinds of problems will I run in to? I assume it means formatting the cRIO, installing LV8, converting the program from LV7 to LV8...
Is there an FAQ regarding this, specifically about the cRIO?

i am on my labview working with 8.5but at work, we only have labview 7.0.what would be my best way to get my vi to be 7.0?thank you so muchMessage Edited by krispiekream on 06-19-2008 03:59 PM
In order to go from LV 8.5 to LV 7, you will need to have LV 8.5 (save it back to 8.0), LV 8.0 (save it back to 7.1) and LV 7.1 (to save back to 7.0).
If it's only a few small VI's, you can post them on the forum and ask someone to do the saves for you. (Best if you do the save back to 8.0 and post that in order to eliminate 1 of the 3 steps for whoever will do the rest of the conversions for you.)
yeah. great.. i did all those steps.i went from 8.0 to 7.1i dont have labview 7.1 so i can't go to 7.0.can someone please help me.
Please try the attached to see if it works with LV7.0
Hopefully it does!!
thank you so much. i'll try it right now.

Hello NooR,There are a couple of things you might want to check regarding the compatibility of your USB camera with NI software. Is your camera Direct Show compliant? Are you trying to acquire from multiple cameras? Here is a document which discusses the camera specification requirements for the USB driver:<a href="http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/89E33B77CFE244E986256F8E004E0F13?OpenDocument" target="_blank"> What Cameras are Supported by the NI-IMAQ for USB Driver?</a> Also did you check that you meet the system requirements that are listed on the <a href="http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030" target="_blank">IMAQ for USB driver</a> page (Windows 2000/XP, LabVIEW 7.0 or higher AND NI Vision 7.1 or higher, etc.)? Another thing to check since the NI-IMAQ for USB driver communicates with
the Direct Show Filter of the camera's driver which uses localized

I am quite new to FTDI and Labview, it would be great if anyone of you can supply me a sample vi file to point me the direction. Thanks A LOT!!
You will be using the VISA driver to communicate with your USB device through LV. There are several tuturials and example codes on our website that you can look at. If you do a search on Developer Zone for something like "USB VISA" you well get example code, knowledge base articles, and tutorials. One I think might be good for starting is: <a href="http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4478" target="_blank">http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4478</a>
There are also some good VISA examples that come with LV once you get your device to show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer. Just go to help>find examples to search through those. This should get you off to a good start. Feel free to post again if you have any more questions.
