Depends on your definition of "free."
Lisp is not dead, it just smells funny.

I searched such version, but what I found is either trial version or
lisp with restricted features... So, now I am using SBCL on linux.

Can an application populate two Grids from the database,

My guess is that you can't.
From a database perspective, you need two different connections, and that's
not a big deal. ADO .Net can handle that. Then I don't know about data
binding and all that, but since calls in ADO .Net are synchronous, I can...

Linux Multithreading Hi,
Im trying to create a modular program. The user uses a console, and
depending what the user types, different modules(groups of functions)
become active, like a normal shell.
This can be done by using threads, however, all the modules must be
compiled together into the program, to allow me to specify what initial
function is associated with the thread. I would like the program to be
able to load new modules from file, to allow me to expand the available
modules, without recompiling everything.
I realize I could use IPC or something similar to communicate among a
whole bunch of processes,...
Hardware Multithreading Hi,

Multithreaded OpenGL Hello,
I'm looking for some documentation about using OpenGL from multiple
threads. All I can find is many old topics in this group. Is there
anything more concrete, from the ARB, from nVIDIA, from anyone?
Specifically, I have a multithreaded application running on Linux,
which behaves absolutely perfectly when using the old LinuxThreads
libraries, but breaks completely using the newer NPTL threads. Now
this could well be an issue with nVIDIA's driver, but I'd like to be
sure I'm not doing stupid things which just happened to work with
The application is bas...
Multithreaded loading Well, I finally got around to putting the GL version of our engine
into one of our games today. And ran into the infamous "OpenGL can't
do multithreading" problem. Deep joy.
Basically, so there's something moving on the screen at all times, in
many cases while the player is actually playing hte game, the loading
is done on a seperate background thread. This includes textures,
which naturally includes calls to glGenTextures, glBindTexture,
glTexParameter, glTexImage2D, etc... all of which seem to whinge about
being called on a different thread from the main one.
So, can s...

regarding multithreading hi all,
i have a doubt in multithreading, how many threads can a java program
handle at a particular point of time.
plzzz i need the reply as soon as possible.
thanks in advance
Java (more precise, the JVM specification) does not specify a limit in
the number of threads. This number is limited by the underlying system.
First of all, the OS will limit the number of possible threads.
Second, there's the JVM implementation. If the JVM uses native threads,
the limit is one on one with the OS limit, of course depending on the
threads used by other processes on the system.
If the imple...

Where could I find a sample or documentation?
I have been viewing some docs on www.oorexx.org/docs and found
references to threading, for example, but not sample code and not so
clear to use as guide.

SMT is only available on IBM Power5 processors (Other variations of the
technology exist on other processor lines like Intel's Hyperthreading).
I have not heard of a limitation of it only being available on dual core
cpu's, although I've never had a single cpu P5 system so I can't verify
that. From my own understanding o...
Multithreading in IDL HI Everybody,
Can IDL thread be generated on single processor system as JAVA or
IDL itself can be set to run multithread even on a single processor
system. Simply run CPU, TPOOL_NTHREADS = NumThreads and you're set.
So far my experience says that on Linux there'll be a process for each
thread and on Windows all I could get was a single process, no matter
what - maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my guess is that is the way
multithreading works on Windows (note that I neither own a SMP system
nor have access to one).
Now, if you're asking about thr...

Multithreading question Hi, I have some questions regarding a multithreaded server I'm working
Since the main function (the primary thread) and the handle_client
function (called by all the other threads) use the user database
variables (pointer to array of struct, file, number of users) and to
the handle_function I can only pass a void* (currently a pointer to a
struct with client data), I have declared the user database variables
as global. Do you think they're justified in this case?
Also, I'm an intermediate (I think) C programmer and so far in
everything I have read, I find situations where th...
I expirienced strange problems when using the module threading:
def __init__(_, arg):
_.arg = arg
b = Bar(arg)
for i in xrange(4):
thread = threading.Thread(target=lambda : foo(i))
What I'd expect would be a sequence of prints like this
What I actualy get is this:
Placing a time.sleep(3) after the thread.start() fixed things. So it appears
that the curried lambda passed as target is somehow a reference equal for
all four invocations.
Hi, im just learning about multithreading for a program i am writin
that needs to read from multiple camreas attached to the computer a
the same time.
I know how to create threads and pass around info, and i know a bi
about mutexes but this is not where the problem resides.
Every time the thread goes to open the device at /dev/video* the threa
just stops running as far as i can see.
i put printf's all over the place and it prints right before the ope
call on the camera, then the next thread kicks in and does the sam

Is Multithreading necessary? Hello to all.
In my application two tclsh interpreters are communicating between
each other. The first interpreter is working on a script, the second
interpreter works as debugger, reading and changing global variables
from first interpreter.
Is there a possibility to create the debugger as an second Thread in
tcl? A small code example would be very helpful. :)

VB6 doesn't support multi-threading (without serious effort). See
http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.Asp?ID=1287 for a discussion.
Do you mean you wish to use ADO asynchronously?
Multithreading can be done, using events. I dont know the specifics of your
application, but something I often do is I will set up a timer variable,
