BTW, you forgot the first line ;-) I thought the link was 
http://www.purlgurl.net/~callgrill/vfatbot.html , I looked it up, and 
saw that it was videfatb.html, so I added a little joke, since I was 
100% sure you are constantly looking at that magic access_log of your 
site :-D. Anyway, I spelled girl as grill, probably because I am hungry ;-)

I wonder what legal actions can be taken to someone making spelling 
mistakes in an URL. If your server is secure, nothing can happen :-D.

Oh, and I did it to look up the name of the person you most likely

When ants invade your kitchen, you follow their trail back
to their colony, then exterminate the entire colony. Within

Unfortunately, you are one of those ants.

Last night, two denial of service attacks originating
from participants in this group. One has been identified
to our satisfaction. We are in contact with comcast.

Mr. Acklam, as you know, I periodically vanish from this
group, for months at time. These attacks people here
perpetrate upon our family, do not stop. Doesn't matter
if I participate here or not.

These attacks on our family have been taking place for years.

Participants here have escalated their attacks on our family
to a point law enforcement now feels one or more participants
here are capable of inflicting physical violence upon our
family members. There is no doubt many participants here are
perpetrating felony crimes against our family, daily. Many
here are assumed to be mentally disturbed evidenced by their
daily and year's long stalking of our family.

The safest attitude our family can assume is all here are guilty.

That is not fair, it is an attitude contrary to our belief system,
but it is the most realistic approach to take.

Our family is trying to deal with what we believe to be mentally
ill criminals who are capable of and desire to inflict physical
violence upon our family. This has been going on for years which
is direct evidence of mental illness.

All of this originates directly from participants in this group.

Why there are so many mentally disturbed people in this newsgroup
and in the Perl Community, is beyond my understanding. I cannot
offer any rational explanation why "Perl" attracts so many who
habitually engage in serious abhorrent crimes. It is very
strange the Perl Community is highly populated by criminals.

Some here publically boast of stalking and harassing our family.
That is yet another clear signal of mental illness. Many here
frequently make comments which indicate they are "pleased" our
family is being stalked and harassed. That is more evidence of
serious mental illness.

A recent test, this instant ninety-five percent drop in crime
rate related to my issuing news some have been busted, this
does directly link virtually all crime against our family
to people here. This is a point which cannot be argued.

That crafted test, confirms law enforcement and we, are on the
right trail. It is people in the Perl Community committing crimes.

Perhaps those few who have been busted, will roll-over on others.

We assume all here to be guilty. Law enforcement assumes all
here to be guilty. All are considered suspect until proven
otherwise. Unfair, yes.

Mr. Acklam, we have no choice but to assume you to be a
mentally disturbed criminal, and we are working hard at
proving you are not. That is standard procedure.

I wish this was not so but have no choice. 

We do NOT stalk and harass anyone here.

Many here stalk and harass our family, and have been for years.


With some here having recently issued threats of physical
violence against our family, we must assume all to be guilty,
and all to be a clear threat to our safety and well-being.

I do not participate in or encourage any kind of attack against
you or others, and if it is true what you say about the problems
you and your family are in, then that's terrible.

On the other hand, you ought to ask yourself why this happens to
you.  I am not saying you deserve the problems you are in, but I
strongly belive your behaviour is a part of the problem:  Your
constant aggression and name-calling against me, and others, have
been way out of line.  No-one deserves a massive verbal beating
just for pointing out that someone is mistaken.

Your flaming of me hasn't bothered me, but I guess you have
offended someone with a lower tolerance.  I'm not defending
harrassements against you, but I am certain that it won't stop
before you realize that your behaviour is a part of the problem.

Again, she has a page with a Queen lyric, Fat bottomed girls, with on 
the top a soft erotic page, and on the bottom a page of herself (?), 
also soft erotic. This page pops up in many search engines when people 
look for fat girls etc.

She preceives each hit via such a search engine as a hack attempt by 
people in this group. Since I, and I assume most other people here, 
really have better things to do, it is clear her claims are mere ramblings.

Also if you carefully read her postings you notice she repeats many 
words on and on. She clearly sees a different reality than most people.
Yet she claims most people in this group are mentally ill. This might be 
called projection by someone who has read a bit on psychology. OTHO I 
won't go there, you can't diagnose people on Usenet postings alone, IMHO.

Nothing is happening. I visited her site a few days ago. My browser has 
in the User Agent string my full name and address of my website. Not a 
tool a hacker uses. I was looking up something for an other reply, and 
made two typos in the URL. Then I made a joke, I added after the URL an
apology, like:

http://site.invalid/page.html?sorry+for+the+spelling+error

And IIRC, one with another+hack+attempt

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Those are clearly not hack attempts, I 
supplied only characters in the 0x20-0x1f range.

She is confused and her view of reality is not that of most people. When 
you perceive a different reality, others behave not according to your 
"rules" and are weird, criminals etc. This can make such a person 
anxious, scared and hence paranoid.

There are no crimes. Looking at a page because you found it using a 
search engine is not a crime. However, I think the pictures Purl Gurl 
uses all over the site, as well as some of the content, are not hers.

What really amazes me is that she yells murder because she get visitors 
on a page that contains a lyric by Queen (she probably is not allowed to 
publish this lyric) and at least one picture I am sure she also has no 
permission to use.

I sincerly doubt that anyone in this ng takes PG serious, or goes as far

If we can replace mentally disturbed with mentally ill, sure. I can name 
at least one. Also, simple statistics show that in a group of 100 people 
there are some people (I saw figures between 10-20%) that have a mental 
illness at some moment in their life. Since I estimate there are at 
least two times as much people reading this group, there must be some 
people who have had a mentall illness, or are suffering right now.

a day. Sometimes, I even make typos in my URLs :-).

3) As other posters have mentioned, your most hit page contains
suggestive keywords. It will surely surprise you to know that many
people use the internet for access to pornographic images, and use
keyword based searches to find such.

Here's an idea. Take down the one page getting all these hits. Some
claiming that accessing your server is somehow illegal. Get treatment
for you delusions. And stop claiming the Perl community is somehow
"criminal".

within a short time frame. Only a program can do that
or multiples of people. The timing is too slow to be

On a side note, I looked up my state's definition of harassment:
      RCW 9A.46.020
Definition -- Penalties. (Effective until July 1, 2004.)

(1) A person is guilty of harassment if:

      (a) Without lawful authority, the person knowingly threatens:

      (i) To cause bodily injury immediately or in the future to the 
person threatened or to any other person; or

      (ii) To cause physical damage to the property of a person other 
than the actor; or

      (iii) To subject the person threatened or any other person to 
physical confinement or restraint; or

      (iv) Maliciously to do any other act which is intended to 
substantially harm the person threatened or another with respect to his 
or her physical or mental health or safety; and

      (b) The person by words or conduct places the person threatened in 
reasonable fear that the threat will be carried out. "Words or conduct" 
includes, in addition to any other form of communication or conduct, the 
sending of an electronic communication.

I don't believe that Bokma threatened bodily injury for saying "sorry 
for the hack attempt" nor do I believe that constitutes physical damage. 
If you still believe Bokma is guilty of harassment then I really have to 
ask; did his GET requests instill "reasonable fear" that Bokma would 
carry out a threat? I'm also curious about what threat he would be making...

it's rather long so I thought I should just point out the big things.

(1) A person commits the crime of stalking if, without lawful authority 
and under circumstances not amounting to a felony attempt of another crime:

      (a) He or she intentionally and repeatedly harasses or repeatedly 
follows another person; and

      (b) The person being harassed or followed is placed in fear that 
the stalker intends to injure the person, another person, or property of 
the person or of another person. The feeling of fear must be one that a 
reasonable person in the same situation would experience under all the 
circumstances.

How many people here would feel fear if someone sent a malformed GET to 
their web server. I get hundreds every day from worms and I can't say 
I've lost any sleep. I can't say that Bokma's attempts look like 
harassment or intimidation.

In addition it would be difficult to prosecute him under Computer 
trespass laws as they usually state "without authorization, 
intentionally gains access to a computer system". I believe it would be 
difficult to portray him as gaining access to something that is publicly 
available.

I'm not a lawyer, I just thought maybe some of this may help resolve the 
conflict.

     claims. I know you've posted logs but NEVER indicated what you
     suspected was a hacking attempt. And hacking is the ONLY

     has been well refuted as being hits from search engines and
     people looking for porn.  The site in question seems to be
     /~callgirl/ and contains the words fat bottom girls and nudity. I
     can see how that might attract quite a bit of attention.

     This is a HIGHLY offensive statement. Your comparing your plight to

     Jews were used as slave labor in factories.

     Jews were experimented on medically.

     Jews were put into concentration camps where they were treated

     This is just what I can come up with off the top of my head. I'm
     sure a simple web search will come up with much more.

     The crime you mentioned is a DNS attack on your web
     server. Denying others the use of your web pages and causing you
     a bit of frustration. How do these two compare? They don't!!

     In short there is NO comparison and this statement is irrelevant,
     offensive and insensitive.

     I personally think its bad practice to intentionally offend or
     insult. But the fact of the matter is this group (like many
     technical groups) has a rather harsh climate and much is expected
     of the posters. (This group is rather tame compared to
     comp.lang.c). 

     As for harassment and criminal acts, I've seen no evidence to
     support that this is even happening. And correcting your
     code/posts is NOT an act of harassment. It is the function of
     this group to point out mistakes and suggest better ways to do
     things.

     In fact, most of the regulars seem to be ignoring you (a lesson I
     should learn) and the only thing I see that comes close to
     harassment is your threats of legal action and an entire thread
     about John Bokma.

     As for those that are no longer posting, how do you know
     they were harassed off? Did you ask them? Perhaps something
     happened and they no longer have time or use for this group. I
     stopped following this group long ago because I left my job as a
     Perl programmer and Perl was no longer as important in my life. I
     do come back from time to time.

Yup. She showed a log snippet recently, and I saw 4 visitors in 20 
minutes, so unless it was edited, so say 12 visitors/hour. Maybe she has 
peaks like 120/hour, but I doubt it.
