fyi - combination of outlook and php - create stationery for MS outlook using PHP engine ;-)

Hi Folk

Some of my clients asked me to create "fancy emails" for them (aka html
formatted emails).

I know how to make a nice html document, but I had trouble creating a simple
way to provide the document to my clients so that they could use it to.

I know most of them use Outlook XP or Outlook 2003, so what I created was a
page that creates a Visual Basic script that, when saved to the desktop and
clicked (run), opens a message in outlook using the html provided.

To see this in action, please go to :

http://www.rakau.com/station/index.php

I would love to have some feedback.

So - what does this have to do with PHP, and why are you posting this in
a PHP newsgroup?

Because ultimately it is a PHP application. The code is below. It may give
some people some ideas or help someone I thought (obviously more aimed at
beginners):

<?php
if($_POST["submit"]) {
//clean input
 if(!$_POST["filename"]) {
  $_POST["filename"] = "test";
 }
 $filename = alpha_numeric_make_one($_POST["filename"]).'.vbs';
 $i = 0;
 while(file_exists($filename)){
  $i++;
  $filename = $i.'_'.$filename;
 }
 if(!$_POST["html"]) {
  $_POST["html"] = example_text();
 }
 $data = createvbscript($_POST["html"]);
 $length = strlen($data);
 if($length > (1024 * 4)) {
  die("file is too large - sorry");
 }
//create file
 if (!$handle = fopen($filename, 'w+')) {
  echo "Cannot open file ($filename)";
  exit;
 }
 if (fwrite($handle, $data) === FALSE) {
  echo "Cannot write to file ($filename)";
  exit;
 }
 fclose($handle);
//force download
 @ob_end_clean();
 header("Pragma: public");
 header("Expires: 0");
 header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
 header("Cache-Control: public");
 header("Content-Description: File Transfer");
 header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'.$filename.'"' );
 header("Content-Type: application/force-download");
// Length required for Internet Explorer
 header("Content-Length: ".$length);
 echo $data;
 flush();
 @ob_flush();
}

It was not really a question, but as I understand it, a message board can
also be used to make announcements or share ideas, not just ask questions.
i ask a lot of questions, but when I make something I like to share it,
because I want to be stay ahead of the karma police ;-) I have had so many
awesome responses over the last year, that I would love to add something
myself.

I try to make my subject lines as informative as possible so that people can
ignore it if they have no interest.

Use PHP var in PHP generated Javascript?
I know the common way of using a PHP variable in javascript via: <script>myjsvar = <?echo $phpvar;?>;</script> But in my case I'm generating several javascript code blocks (which produce some flash) via a PHP loop, so I need to figure out another way to get the PHP vars into these blocks similar to: foreach ($lines as $line) { print "<script>myjsvar = $phpvar;</script>"; } I've tried various ways to get this working included ".$phpvar." and "+ $phpvar+", etc. None seem to work. OWA is extremely heavy in the javascript area, and unless you're terribly masochistic a simple CURL system to use it is IMHO out of the question (not undoable, just terribly trial-and-error & time consuming). php newbie want to use php to do the following things
I wanna use a textarea and a submit to transfer the text area into a file. and then the PHP program using a .exe program open this file, processing the file, and save the output in another file then PHP will open this file and update the html within the text file and send to the customer My question is: if this possible? what if the users input is not valid for the .exe file? how to analyze this in php? what if multiple users click this php file? Thanks a lot, or would you please give me some examples on this. Cheers fAnS. Why send it to a .exe? If you can send the program info via command-line and it has code built-in to output a file then a sufficient php programmer should be able to do it. However, it may be harder if the .exe is a GUI based app. If you wrote the .exe then you would probably be better off just porting it to php and calling it from within the other php file. And if this is a commercial thing then I don't think that this is the right way to go. Also the .exe depends upon the server running Windows which it will probably not. Php constants in php.ini
I am trying to set user_agent = PHP_VERSION in php.ini. In my php.ini the instructions say that you can use constants in the php.ini file. The only constants I can get to work, though, are the error level constants like E_ALL, E_ERROR, E_WARNING, etc., ... Is anyone aware of some sort of trick to getting others to work? (I was thinking it would be nice to have the user agent string used by my Php scripts to use PHP_VERSION in the string.) -- ***************************** Chuck Anderson • Boulder, CO http://www.CycleTourist.com Integrity is obvious. Is there anyway to accept Outlook Free/Busy Publishings using PHP?
Hello, To configure Free/Busy Publishing, I went to Tools > Options > Preferences Tab > Calendar Options Button > Advanced Options > Free/Busy Options. Currently, the checkbox next to Publish at my location is checked and pointed to a test script on a local machine. Outlook pings the machine, but I can't decipher the publishing methodology. Is there anyway to accept these publications using a server written in PHP? Thanks & Regards, TC I think you have to actually upload a .vfb file, then you use php to parse the thing. You may have to use ftp to upload it - put...

why does $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] say /test.php/test.php for test.php?
I have a PHP script at 127.0.0.1/test.php. It's contents are as follows: <?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?> And it's output isn't test.php, as I'd expect, or /test.php, but rather, /test.php/test.php. Why? And how do I fix it? php, outlook 2k3
Hi, I have a php script that grabs user information from a form and sends me an email when an order has been placed. how do I make the default 'reply-to' address the email address of the customer? I'm hoping to click 'reply' within outlook 2003 and not have to type in each user's email for every order. Thanks. lrbtav wrote: > Hi, I have a php script that grabs user information from a form and > sends me an email when an order has been placed. how do I make the > default 'reply-to' address the email address of the customer? Thanks. > Assuming that your function uses mail(), simply put the users email address in the reply-to in extra headers section. eg. adapted from the docs- <?php $to = 'your.address@example.com'; $subject = 'the subject'; $message = 'hello'; $headers = 'From: website@example.com' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To: your.customer@his_domian.com' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); ?> Cheers, Cliff. ...

how to compile php with new ini setting?
I need to add aspell capability to php. I added the following line: extension=libaspell.so The extension directory is: extension_dir = /usr/local/apache2/libexec/modules and I put the aspell cirectories under that like so the extension is actually: /usr/local/apache/libexec/modules/aspell/lib/libaspell.so I thought that would do it. But when I run php_info() it does not display in the Configure Command that it is "--with-aspell". SO I am missing something. I was not able to compile aspell so I found a precompiled version and put it under the extension_dir. Any ideas? Many thanks!! ...

PHP 5.1.2 and using PHP w Apache2 and MySQL
Hello all, First of all I first dld and installed (unzipped) PHP 5.1.1 before 5.1.2 was released, so do I just unzip 5.1.2 over the existing 5.1.1 and use the same php.ini file, or is there more to it than that? When I run phpinfo it still displays the ver as 5.1.1, is this ok? Also, I have installed Apache 2.0.55 and PHP 5.1.2 (see above 5.1.2 question) on my personal windows me computer, and I would like to install MySQL as well. To the best of my knowledge both of the above SEEM to be working and setup correctly. My goal in doing this is so that I can learn to use Apache, PHP ...
