How to get a JPG image from a PDF?

Hi,

I'm using PHP 4.4.4 (but can upgrade if that's the answer to this
question). Given a PDF file, I want to be able to generate a JPG of
each page. I have no idea where to start but sure this is a problem
someone has tackled before.

Anything out there you would recommend? - Dave

At the minimum use a screen capture program view each page, capture
it,and process to a JPEG ;-)

without PHP, you can use PDFcreator (www.pdfforge.org)

To clarify, what I want is if I have a single PDF with 5 pages, I'd
like to be able to have 5 separate JPG files -- each file representing
each page of the PDF. Also, this is not something I want to do
manually, but rather programmatically using PHP, or at least the Linux
system it is running on.

Thanks, - Dave

Yes, we're all clear on that. The lesson that you are being given here is
that the right way to do this is using freely available tools, not PHP
code. Rendering a PDF file is complicated, essentially requiring a full
PostScript interpreter.

I will be so bold as to ask how do you run Ghostview so that it only
converts a single page of the PDF to JPG? - Dave

For reading characters from graphical data, google "ocr" (and "java") (the acronym means "optical character recognition") PDFs may contain the text directly (non-graphically), which would make extraction much easier (and not require ocr). PHP File Upload
Hello all, first I'd like to say I've always found google groups to be very helpful, especially considering the help around here is out of just plane goodness. The problem I ran into, or rather a friend I had work on this, is uploading a PDF. We had it working perfectly fine uploading images, and displaying them. But then someone had the idea of also being able to upload a PDF. And for whatever reason, it doesn't like to upload PDF's, and from what I've gathered it isn't giving any errors either. Maybe some of you guru's could take a look at the 2 files I have shown below, maybe something will pop out as "huh???". Image PDF to Searchable PDF

That is, without needing full Acrobat or aome other adjunct software? Resizing image control with jpg image
Using A2K I have an image control on a report and use code to set the image.picture to the required jpg. 3 of the jpgs resize properly but 2 do not - they display much smaller than the image control. The problem jpgs were originally created as line drawings in Word. They were then copy and pasted to Paint where they were saved as jpg files. Sizemode is set to stretch.(have tried clip and zoom but no better). I cannot find any way to make them expand to the size of the image control. Here is a previous post of mine on this subject. If you did a search on GoogleGroups you would find a lot more detail on this subject from earlier posts of mine. Specifically, I have seen instances when the ImageWidth and ImageHeight props do not return the correct values, thus error/boundary checking is required. If you are working with an Image that was not scanned/created and not designed to be displayed at a specific resolution then you can simply: 1) Load the Image into your Image control 2) Set the Image control's Width to its ImageWidth property 3) Set the Image control's Height to its ImageHeight property ' Modify code to reference your Image control's Name Me.NameOfYourImageControl.Picture = "C\NameOfAPic.jpg" Me.NameOfYourImageControl.Width = Me.NameOfYourImageControl.ImageWidth Me.NameOfYourImageControl.Height = Me.NameOfYourImageControl.ImageHeight Message 4 in thread From: Stephen Lebans (StephenLeb...@mvps.org) Subject: Re: letters...

Essentially you can't. In sub-sampling your image you have thrown away information regarding your original. In principle this cannot be recovered. The best you can do is to use some form of pixel interpolation to try to get the same size image as you started with, but unless you are VERY lucky, the reconstructed image will only ever be an approximation to your original. One answer might be save a copy of the original image to disc before you subsample it, then read the file when you want the original.
