Announcing the 13th Annual Tcl/Tk Conference

October 9-13, 2006
Naperville, Illinois USA

Learn from the experts, share your experience - the annual Tcl/Tk
conference is
your opportunity to engage with the Tcl/Tk core team and your fellow
peers.

The conference program will include:
 * Presentations and tutorials
 * The (Active)State of Tcl talk by Tcl/Tk release manager Jeff Hobbs
 * Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions
 * Invited key-note talks
 * Discussion forums with the Tcl/Tk core team

Call For Papers

You are invited and indeed encouraged to submit proposals for
presentations and
tutorials. The conference schedule will consist of 2 days of tutorials
(Monday - Tuesday) and 3 days for the main conference (Wednesday -
Friday).

The conference provides you an opportunity to report on original
research and applications of Tcl/Tk and related technology. The
audience will
consist of practitioners and researchers who are intermediate or
experienced
users of Tcl/Tk. For this reason, reports on experiences and
applications
should draw out lessons for other Tcl/Tk developers.

Topics will include, but are not limited to:
 * Application of Tcl/Tk in industries as diverse as engineering,
     industrial controls, broadcasting, financial services,
     medical and electronic design
 * Networking with Tcl/Tk, including distributed applications and
network
     management
 * New widgets and techniques for GUI design with Tk
 * Simulation and application steering with Tcl/Tk
 * Tcl/Tk on handheld and embedded devices
 * New Tcl extensions and add-ons, including Tcllib and Tklib
 * Tcl/Tk centric operating environments

Submission Guidelines

If you are interested in submitting a paper you should send an abstract
of about
100 words and a summary of maximum two pages. Omit extraneous or
redundant
information. Length is not a direct factor in judging the quality of
the
submission.

If submitting a tutorial proposal you should send an outline of the
tutorial and
a brief biography, and clearly indicate whether the tutorial is of
half-day or
full-day duration.

Send submissions as plain text to <tcl2006@tcl.tk> no later than June
30, 2006.

The primary author for each accepted paper will receive registration
to the Technical Sessions portion of the conference at a reduced rate.

The program committee will review and evaluate papers according to
the following criteria:
 * Quantity and quality of novel content
 * Relevance and interest to the Tcl/Tk community
 * Suitability of content for presentation at the conference

Proposals may report on commercial or non-commercial systems, but
those with only blatant marketing content will not be accepted.

Application and experience papers need to strike a balance between
background on the application domain and the relevance of Tcl/Tk to
the application. Application and experience papers should clearly
explain how the application or experience illustrates a novel use of
Tcl/Tk, and what lessons the Tcl/Tk community can derive from the
application or experience to apply to their own development efforts.

Papers accompanied by non-disclosure agreement forms will be returned
to the author(s) unread. All submissions are held in the highest
confidentiality prior to publication in the Proceedings, both as a
matter of policy and in accord with the U. S. Copyright Act of 1976.

Registration Information

More information on the conference will be available in Spring 2006
at the conference web site (http://www.tcl.tk/community/tcl2006/)
and published on various Tcl/Tk related information channels.

2nd Call For Papers, 17th Annual Tcl/Tk Conference 2010
First, an apology to all who may have already tried to submit a paper abstract to tclconference@googlegroups.com the email contact mentioned in the 1st Call For Papers, and getting a message back claiming, paraphrased, that "This group does not exist". This mail was sent by Google due to the chosen spam control settings, quite misleading on causal and even a closer reading. The situation persisted until now because there was no report of such rejections given to the list administrators either. The settings have now been dialed down to the point where (a) the bad message is not sent any longer, and (b) the list admins get notifications of submissions by non-members so that they can moderate them through. With this issue solved I would now like to ask anybody who tried before to re-submit their abstract, with apologies for the inconvenience caused. Now, with that behind us: =================================================================== 17th Annual Tcl/Tk Conference (Tcl'2010) http://www.tcl.tk/community/tcl2010/ October 11 - 15, 2010 Hilton Suites/Conference Center Chicago/Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, USA Important Dates: Abstracts and proposals due August 1, 2010 Notification to authors August 15, 2010 WIP and BOF reservations open August 1, 2010 Author materials due October 1, 2010 Tutorials Start October 11, 2010 Conference starts October 13, 2010 Email Contact: tclconference@go...

ANNOUNCE: ADB and ADBSQL pure-tcl database engine for Tcl/Tk
Dear All, I'm happy to announce today the first release of adb/adbsql. ADB together with the MySQL database connectivity module adbsql are a Tcl/Tk package useful for Tcl/Tk programmers that want to store their data in a database-kind of way with tables and fields. Two (optional) features of ADB that may make it worthwhile for you: * Writing the database as XML output and later of course the ability to read it. * Connecting directly to a MySQL database. The fun part of ADB is that you can either use it as a full pure tcl library, or you can use these advanced features that require additional packages. Both modules are released under open source LGPL or BSD licenses (your pick) More information: http://wiki.tcl.tk/6319 - Tcl/Tk wiki page on ADB http://sourceforge.net/projects/adbsql/ - Sourceforge page (including download area) http://adbsql.sourceforge.net/adb.html - Manual page of ADB http://adbsql.sourceforge.net/adbsql.html - Manual page of ADBSQL Kind regards, Roalt Aalmoes ...

[TCL/TK interface] Passing variable to TCL/TK
Hi, I am trying to sent to a variable to tcl/tk and unify there it with a string. I wrote the prolog code: :- use_module(library(tcltk)). :- use_package(classic). go(A):- tk_new([name('Simple')], Tcl), tcl_eval(Tcl, 'source simple2.tcl', _), tcl_eval(Tcl, ['ask', br(write(A))], _), tk_main_loop(Tcl), tcl_delete(Tcl). and the tcl file simple2.tcl proc ask {var} { unify_term $var my_value } unfortunatelly when I query for go(S). the interpeter goes into a loop (!?). Bug with tcl/tk on suse 9.3 64bit
I've been using tk from python and have hit a problem. I've been referred across here as it looks like the problem is with tcl/tk rather than python-Tkinter (the problem can be replicated in tcl/tk) I'm trying to make a set of Entry widgets with Label widgets to the left of each one, using the grid layout. If I make and grid the Label *before* the Entry then the Entry widget doesn't seem to work - it lets me put the cursor in it, but I can't type! See example code below. This problem only seems to manifest on my Suse 9.3 64bit Linux machine. Other (32bit) Linux and windows installations don't seem to suffer from it. Is it me doing something really silly, or is this a bug? cheers Matt BTW this question originated in this thread in comp.lang.python: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.python/browse_frm/thread/c813f0c37d32c79d/07368dc954481f1d --- tcl/tk example -------- entry .en1 grid .en1 -row 0 -column 1 label .lb1 -text "CAN WRITE ->" grid .lb1 -row 0 -column 0 label .lb2 -text "CAN'T WRITE ->" grid .lb2 -row 1 -column 0 entry .en2 grid .en2 -row 1 -column 1 ---- original python example ------- #!/usr/bin/env python import Tkinter class ProblemGUI(object): def __init__(self): super(ProblemGUI, self).__init__() self.window = Tkinter.Tk() self.window.title("Try typing into both Entry widgets") # declare and grid Entry widget before Labe...
