Tcl 8.5.2 version conflict on Mac OS X

Hi,

I just tried to compile 8.5.2 on Mac OSX, and install it. Below is the
error I get when I try to start tclsh8.5. [set tcl_patchLevel] shows
also that it would be 8.5.1. What is up here, do others have the same
problem?

I should add that I installed ActiveTcl 8.5.2 before, and it worked. But
normally it should not be a problem to overwrite this installation with
another, self compiled. I have done this before without any problems...

Thanks in advance
Eckhard.

This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.

There's still an 8.5.1 version of libtcl on your system and somehow
you're picking it up instead of the 8.5.2 version you need.

I suspect something went wrong with your compile/install procedure,
but without seeing the details of what you did, it's hard to say what.

I used the documented method "make -C tcl${version}/macosx/". This
installs its target in build/, and when I run build/tcl/tclsh8.5, I get
the same error...
Could it be that there is still an "8.5.1" somewhere in the sources that
determines the wrong version?

I don't know of anything that I have done differently than before - and
as said, it was never a problem (except when I tried to install the CVS
head, where such things can happen of course).

Please log this issue in the Tracker so it can reach the folks who
are more familiar with the conventions and practices of the OS X
platform.

you need to setup DYLD environment variables in this case to pick up
the Tcl.framework from the uninstalled location, e.g. export
DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH=`pwd`/build/tcl

you can check what library is being loaded when you start tclsh by
setting the DYLD_PRINT_LIBRARIES variable (c.f. man dyld for details),
I'm guessing you are picking up an old 8.5.1 framework somewhere.

Cheers,

Daniel

Are Mac OS X 10.5.8's iLife programs safe to use in Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x?
Hi. Someone told me that Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x do not come with iLife like the older Mac OS X versions (e.g., 10.5.x). I did not know this! Since my client uses iPhoto that came preinstalled on his old 2008 MacBook Pro's Mac OS X 10.5.x (10.5.8 right now), can he use the old one from 10.5.8? tcl/tk version confusion with tkinter in Python 2.6, on OS X
I'm having trouble with tkinter on a new installation of Python (2.6), built with the framework option from source that was downloaded from python.org. I'm running OS 10.4 on a PowerPC G4. The problem first arose when I tried to run matplotlib - it couldn't find tcl/tk because it was searching for 8.5, and I had 8.4.
