Tcl/Tk 8.4.15 release

Release candidates are available:

     ftp://ftp.tcl.tk/pub/tcl/tcl8_4/tcl8.4.15rc2-src.tar.gz
     ftp://ftp.tcl.tk/pub/tcl/tcl8_4/tk8.4.15rc2-src.tar.gz

I'm often wrong about such things, but I think these candidates will
become the actual release.

Please find and report any reason that should not happen.

Without such a report, expect the release to become official on Friday.

Off to write release notes...

I *was* wrong. Discovery and fix of a memory leaks has led to
generation of Tcl 8.4.15 RC 3:

   ftp://ftp.tcl.tk/pub/tcl/tcl8_4/tcl8.4.15rc3-src.tar.gz

Tk release candidate unchanged.

Thanks Don !

I'd like to know the canonical place to look for the release notes
(once you're done writing them :).
Also, having them in hand, I'd also make good use of prebuilt
binaries: I can devote some time to test specifically some areas, but
certainly not setup a compilation environment just for that...
Is there a place to look for such prebuilt binaries, for release
candidates ?

The test case unixInit-2.8 is failing now and wasn't with
8.4.14. It fails for Linux (x86, x64, ia64, s390x) as well as
Solaris 5.8, AIX 5.1 and 5.2 and HP-UX 11.23 ia64.

I will look if I can come up with some more information later
today.

Some troubleshooting on the chat indicates that this testcase only
fails when the --prefix to configure is a relative path (e.g. --
prefix=..) In that case 8.4.14 shows the same failure.

Yes, thanks Mark. The issue resulted in the feature request:

[1725700] Accept relative path for --prefix configure option

.... and is no stopper for 8.4.15, of course.

Tcl/Tk 8.4.19 RELEASED
Tcl/Tk 8.4.19 Release Announcement April 18, 2008 The Tcl Core Team is pleased to announce the 8.4.19 releases of the Tcl dynamic language and the Tk toolkit. This is the nineteenth patch release of Tcl/Tk 8.4. More details can be found below. We would like to express our gratitude to all those who submit bug reports and patches. This information is invaluable in enabling us to identify and eliminate problems in the core. Routine maintenance of Tcl/Tk 8.4 has now come to an end. We intend Tcl/Tk 8.4.19 to be the final 8.4.* releases. The current stable releases of Tcl/Tk are 8.5.2, and development has begun on Tcl/Tk 8.6. It is possible that a bug fix of great enough importance or severity might prompt a release of 8.4.20, but there is no plan for that at the moment. Even that level of support will fade away quickly.
