Have been looking at used refurbed dell laptop and each one i check
has a much different model number. Is there a quick description of
what these letters and numbers stand for on dell laptops around three
years old? May sound like a stupid question but the more i check
sites, the more confused i get. Probebly just looking for some
pointers on what to look for. Best regards,

I don't know of a place where they are all lined up on a single page,
but you can find specs for each model at:
https://support.dell.com/productselection.aspx?UseReferer=true

There's a pick list/drop down menu; scroll down to the model you're
interested in.  Then you have to click through a couple more spots to
get to the specs, but they are pretty comprehensive (i.e, max ram, #
of slots, etc)
