dell latitude c series

I have been given an old Latitude with a PII. It has an IBM hard drive
of 6.? G. The BIOS agrees on the size of the HD. However In windows
(98) Explorer, when I look at the properties for the C drive it tells
me that the HD is only 2.9G.
I need to understand why Win98 is reporting this, and if possible how
to correct it

TIA

well its possible the hard drive is partitiioned with a non windows
compatable partition (NTFS, LINUX,) Or hidden backup partitions, or even
that the rest of the drive is unpartitioned. you can take a windows setup
disk and run Fdisk and see what the partition table is

Thanks JT

I've now run FDISK /STATUS and this is what is reported in the two
lines,

Disk 1 6.5GB
           C Drive 2.9GB

Is this telling me that the only partition created is 2.9GB, or does
this mean there is a hadden partition?

It appears to me, at least, that there's only the one partition that
doesn't take up the whole drive. If you want to resize the partition,
while preserving the contents of the existing partition, you should pick
up a copy of PartitionMagic. If the contents of the partition are not
important -- meaning you're ready to reinstall Windows and all of the
associated software, etc. -- then just use FDISK to delete that
partition, then create a new one using the entire drive.
