Hp nx9010

  • Follow

I have a Compaq nx9010 and the screen has failed (ok through external
monitor). The screen is illuminated and the brightness can be varied,
but there is no video. I've been looking to buy a faulty laptop of the
same type on Ebay that has a good screen and fit it into mine. I thought
that it would be a simple matter of swapping the screens over but now I
understand that I would need to run a utilities disk (which I don't
have) afterwards to set up the display.

Can anyone advise on this? Also is there any way that, short of swapping
the screen, I can diagnose this problem to determine that it's not
actually a problem on the motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your backlight and inverter are functioning, but the LCD panel or video chip
has failed. It could be a loose connector, but that is unlikely.

If it is the panel, your only option is to replace the entire panel. It
will be quite expensive.

Thanks for that very good advice. Can the video chip be replaced - is it
on the motherboard? It does work ok on an external monitor though.

If it works with an external display, then it is not the graphics chip. It
is the LCD itself.

A bad graphics chip would require the motherboard be replaced; but your
problem is not with the graphics chip.
