I have a Toshiba Satelite/XP Pro/Trident Cyberblade XP Ai1 v. 6.4
video. The laptop is about 2 years old. On the back there is an RCA
jack for TV out-put. I connect that to the video in on the back of the
TV. I'm trying to get the display to show up on my TV but I can't get
it to work.
I disconnected the Coax cable from the TV and put it on channel 4
which is what the VCR comes in on (actually I tried all channels).
From the Display Adapters property page I try to switch to TV and it
tells me it will make the change and wait 15 seconds to make sure the
change is working. My laptop screen goes blank but I only get snow on
the TV.
Any help is appriciated.

the TV-out of the laptop is Video, not RF, so you can not plug to the TV,
unless the TV has a video input (yellow conector).
You need to read your manual for the keys comvination to swicht to TV, in my
laptop is Fn+F5 (4 times)

I am connecting the the yellow RCA jack marked 'Video' on the back of
the TV. My laptop did not come with anything that looks like and
owners manual. All I got was a few sheets outlining the basic layout
of the computer and showing what the different ports, jacks, and
buttons are for. There is a on-line help file that has nothing on the
TV-Out jack. Pressing F1 while the properties page is up does nothing.
I also found nothing on the Toshiba web site. Having said all of that
you may have solved the problem for me - Fn+F5 (4 times). I'll give
that a try.

If you are getting snow on the TV, you probably haven't switched it over to
video in. You will normally get a blue screen when there is no input to
video. Snow usually means it is still connected to the rf (channel changer).

I'm not sure what the heck is going on. The F5 key has the computer/tv
icon on it to be used inconjuction with the Fn key. I'm connecting the
RCA jack from the yellow jack on the back in the laptop to the yellow
jack on the tv. I've tried two different cables and two differnt TVs.
I get nothing but snow. When I press the Fn+F5 keys a number of times
the laptop screen eventually goes blank but I get no out-put to the
tv. On the Settings tab on the Display properties page I have tried
selecting the secondary monitor icon and checking the "Extend my
Windows desktop onto this monitor" and nothing happens. I try
unchecking that and selecting the TV from the Advanced tab. Still
nothing. The Device Manager shows a Default Monitor, Generic
Television, Toshiba Internal Panel. Generic Televison properties says
The Device Is Working Properly.
I'm stumped. Either I am missing something or the TV-out jack on the
computer is not working properly. Very frustrating. If anyone else has
the Satalite 1800-S274 out there and has output to a TV tell me what
you did. I'm out of ideas.

That turned out to be it. I recalled that my VCR had an Input
selection button. I plugged the computer in to the VCR and then
toggled through the settings and eventually got the computer video
out-put to appear. I then searched all over both the TVs and in the
TV's menus for some way to change the input selection. Never found a
damn thing. I would think that with no way to select the in-put that
it would be automatic if it detects something from the video in jack.
My only guess is that I need to have both audio and video for it to
switch from the rf feed. It is an RCA tv. At this point it doesn't
really matter. I got the feed through the VCR so it works.
Thanks for the help.

I had a TV once that switched to video when you went below channel one with
the remote. Other than that, look for a mechanical switch somewhere on the
TV.
