The number is the exit code from majordomo's "wrapper" program. Since
they are "unknown", we don't know what they mean (there is a specific
set of "known" exit codes for mail-processing programs defined in
/usr/include/sysexits.h). Try asking in a forum that discusses
majordomo.

Math::PI and ActiveRecord::Base are the same type of lookup... it is = just that Base is a module and PI is a float....

"out" and "in out"
Hi i found the following explaination: In Ada, "in" parameters are similar to C++ const parameters. They are effectively read-only within the scope of the called subprogram. Ada "in out" parameters have a reliable initial value (that passed in from the calling subprogram) and may be modified within the scope of the called procedure. Ada "out" parameters have no reliable initial value, but are expected to be assigned a value within the called procedure. What does "have no reliable initial value" mean when considering the "out" parameter? By chance I created a small program as follows: =========== s : string := "CAT"; procedure modify ( s1 : out string ) is begin s1(2) := 'U'; end modify; ... put ( modify(s) ); =========== now I get as a result "CUT", and i dont understand why i get this result. Doesnt the "out" specify that its initial value isnt passed in via the parameter? But it seems to be passed in the above. In fact the "out" is acting like an "in out". I am a little confused. Could someone shed some light on this? Variations in "Jet" DB engines etc and "Unknown" error!
Hi: I have two systems, one a W98 and the other XP Home. I have Access 2000 installed on both, and have run into a difference in the way the two behave. I have a table on which I wish to reset an "auto number" field so the counter goes back to zero. The procedure I have used is to copy the contents of the table to a temp table, empty the table and then compress the files. After that I copy back the data to the table without the original "auto number". All this works fine on the XP machine BUT on the W98 machine exactly the same process produces " unknown" errors when I try and run the application. That is to say, the error message is that Access has encountered an unknown error". When I hit help, it refers me to the jet engine but thats about all. I am wondering if there is a difference in the "jet" engine between the two systems, how I find out, whether both systems can be given the same version (the one in the XP machine since that does the job for me), and if so how I would set them up with the same engine. Advice would be appreciated. John Baker If there is a difference in how JET behaves, check if msjet40.dll is the same version on both. It's typically in windows\system32. Right-click the file, and choose Version. You should see 4.0.8xxx.0 If you don't see the 8, go to support.microsoft.com, the Downloads section, and get SP8 for JET 4. From memory, you cannot just copy from one to the other, as the SP is ...

Why is the difference between "Error Out.ctl" and "Error Out 3D.ctl"?

Difference between "mail" and "sendmail"
What is the basic difference between "mail" ad "sendmail"? I tried both in the following ways mail [emailid] <filename1 sendmail -t -i <filename2 for mail, filename1 contains the body of the mail for sendmail,filename2 contains all the headers including to,from, subject, contenttype etc. When I was testing both the above to send mails to yahoo account, I could find that "mail" is able to send 30-40 mails per second, but for sendmail, it's taking 30-40 seconds for 1 email to be sent. When I did strace in both cases I found that after sending data to DNS server,"poll" times out after 5 seconds in the case of "sendmail". It will try again and it will times out again. After 3-4 timing outs, the "poll" will return within 1 second and mail will be sent. When "mail" is used, "poll" will return quickly even though the connection is going to same DNS server and also the mail is sent to the same yahoo id. I need to use "sendmail" as it's supporting multipart mails. I would really appreciate your help, Thank you, Benny In short, 'mail' is a client program wheres 'sendmail' is a server program. They are also called MUA and MTA (Mail User Agent vs. Mail Transfer Agent). Sendmail implements the SMTP listening on port 25, and it is pretty much the same program in all Unixes. Mail may be rewritten by the vendor (Solaris, AIX, etc.). As you noticed, 'mail...

What is "error 8"
I set up an external serial modem using the Red Hat GUI networking tool as a generic modem device. However, when I hit the "Activate" button, I get the message, "Failed to activate device with error 8." Where can I find what "error 8" means? Thanks. No one responded, but for the benefit of any other newbies who encounter this problem, here is the solution: I looked in the System Log and saw that the modem did not find a dial tone. I plugged in a phone line, and the "Activate" command worked fine. (I had not realized that "Activate" meant "Connect.") The best bet would be to look at the source of the program that is producing that error message. Unfortunately, the scattered shell scripts, programs, and whatnot concerned with networking, especially dial-up networking is a spaghetti mess, and if your ...

Re: "out" and "in out"
"no reliable initial value" means, you cannot rely on the value, but it may have a value. This depends on the parameter passing mechanism, which is _not_ related to the parameter mode (contrary to what many people think). So the parameter mode is there (nearly) solely for the information of the reader. The parameter passing mechanism for all kinds of parameters is defined in the RM. There are parameters passed by copy (in and out), by reference; for some it is explicitly left undefined. In your case, the passing mechanism is by reference, so you get what you get. But don't rely on this, rely only on the mode, i.e. the parameter st is undefined upon entering the procedure modify, so when you only write component 2, upon return, only component 2 has been written. Under slight variations, the result of your code might be <garbage character>U<garbage character>. Another thing: Don't rely upon s1'First = 1. Component 2 might not exist. You could call modify like so: X: String (25..30); modify (X); Now s1(2) inevitably will raise Constraint_Error. ____________________________________________________ Aufnehmen, abschicken, nah sein - So einfach ist WEB.DE Video-Mail: http://freemail.web.de/?mc=021200 "Christoph Karl Walter Grein" <AdaMagica@web.de> wrote: > > In your case, the passing mechanism is by reference, so you get what you get.
