another 553 5.3.5 mail.mydomain.org. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)

I am working with two sendmail servers work and home (both runing
redhat 8.0)
I read the FAQ on sendmail.org but that hasn't fixed it. work cannot
send mail to home. however home can send mail to work. otherwise, they
send mail everywhere else just fine. I can't seem to figure out where
sending mail from work to home generates the loop back error. Any
Ideas?

config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?) #3
I run sendmail 8.14.4 on my Fedora 12 linux machine and relay outgoing mail to my verizon fios account. Previously, I used port 587 with SASL/authinfo, but Verizon is switching to SSL/smtps [465]. After receiving my 3rd "warning" from Verizon, I tried switching to SSL/stunnel/smtps. However, whenever I send an email, it bounces back with the error message: 553 5.3.5 mycomputer.mydomain. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?) 554 5.3.5 Local configuration error I made the following changes to setup SSL/smtps: sendmail.mc: I added: define(`confRELAY_MAILER', `esmtp') define(`RELAY_MAILER_ARGS', `TCP $h 10025') NOTE: previously, I had: define(`RELAY_MAILER_ARGS', `TCP $h 587') mailertable: relay:localhost.localdomain NOTE: previously I had: relay:outgoing.verizon.net authinfo: AuthInfo:localhost.localdomain "U:myname@verizon.net" "P:xxxxx" NOTE: previously, I had: AuthInfo:outgoing.verizon.net "U:myname@verizon.net" "P:xxxxx" stunnel.conf: client = yes foreground = no libwrap = no [smtps] accept=10025 connect = smtp.verizon.net:smtps I tested my stunnel setup using 'telnet localhost 10025' and all worked fine. So, somehow sendmail seems to be causing the mail to loop back on itself. Any idea what might be going wrong and how to fix? Thanks koso...

config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
How can I fix this error? As far as I can tell my home email server accepts email from all email servers except for this server2 at our production site. OK, I realize this is not a new issue and there are lots of potential solutions out here which haven't worked for me.... Here is our configuration: server1 is located at our Production Site and Server2 is located at my home. My home server is refusing email from our production server. Hi all, when trying to send mail to kejpa@kejpa.com I get the error Mail loops back to me (MX problem?). When I use "mail kejpa" it's working, the problem is when using a external mailclient. Sendmail problem with mail loops back to me (I know why)
Hi all, following scenario: 192.168.0.1 sendmail, cyrus imap/pop3 192.168.0.254 scalix groupware with imap/pop3/smtp Scalix has a config option where you can specify on which IP address the scalix services are listening. The FQDN must be resolvable via DNS. This all works. The hostname of my machine is "abc.foo.com", the .254 ip has "scalix.foo.com". Because scalix is not able to use real "virtual hosting" the hostname of the machine has to be the same as where I bind scalix services on, i.e. scalix.foo.com, otherwise sca nor webmail won't work (Scalix Configurator and Scalix webmail). This all also works as expected. Now to the problem itself. We've written a mailer doing virus scanning, attachment filtering and lots of other stuff configurable via a web interface. The needed m4 entries are: define(`LOCAL_MAILER_PATH', `/opt/alice/mail/bin/mailer')dnl define(`LOCAL_MAILER_ARGS', `mailer $g $u ${client_addr}')dnl MODIFY_MAILER_FLAGS(`LOCAL', `-w') This also works as expected :) ... We also have a config option where a sysadmin can forward all mail to after all the scanning is done via our mailer. This is an IP address where we only change the IP address in /etc/hosts, it looks like this: # ALICE-FORWARD START 192.168.0.254 alice.forward # ALICE-FORWARD END In our mailer we use $username@alice.forward. The problem now is that sendmail always refuses to send the mail to 192.168.0.254 because ...

Mail 2.1, two PBG4s, synchronizing mail and mail problems
Here's the sitch: PBG4 w/broken screen, running an external (duh) Samsung monitor. This is my shop PB, it's currently masquerading as an immobile desktop. PBG4 all fixy-fix. Mostly keep at home, but also on the road. LaCie 320GB external Firewire drive. backup at shop (used Migration Assistant to copy the shop PB's system (10.4.7), apps, and docs to the FireWire drive) Two mail accounts -- one on each PB -- both of which accounts dump into Mail 2.1, on both PBs. With me so far? *I'm* already lost... Problem one: Is there a way -- besides signing up with .Mac -- that I can synchronize the mail on both machines? Failing that, is there a way -- besides doing it message-by-message -- to save the text and attachments from new mail messages? Problem two: Though by all means I can understand, both PBs are set up exactly the same way and certainly the mail prefs are the same, when I click on an HTML link in a message on my PB at home, it opens Firefox to the correct page, just like it ought to do, but if I click on an HTML link in a message on my PB at the shop, the mail window flashes once, but nothing opens. Both PBs are set up with Firefox as the default browser. What in the ding-dong am I doing wrong? Thanks! Bart Brown ...

Problem: Mail bypassing MX records and Mail Screening
We have a Sophos virus screener, and it is the Primary first-choice DNS MX record for virtually all addresses in our domain, call it emailchek. The IMAP mail host itself, call it jove, is listed as a secondary fall-back second-choice MX record. In the normal course of events, outside world mail goes to emailchek, then through a dedicated pipe to jove. The secondary MX record exists for times when emailchek gets overloaded or hangs; jove doesn't have screening software. Ideally, all mail should appear on jove either through the pipe from emailchek OR directly from a host within our domain. Alas, I see about 200-300 emails an hour coming from the outside world that never go through emailchek. How can this be? I don't think emailchek is overloaded....this happens even in the dead of night. It occurs to me that, if a mailer can send mail to a secondary MX record address if the the first is overloaded, then it could be gimmicked by &*^%$s to send to the last choice MX record right from the beginning. If so, the idea of having a fallback MX record is a Bad Idea, unless all of the MX records refer to hosts with the same level of screening. Indeed, maybe spammers are using gimmicked mailers that ignore MX records and go direct to a symbolic or dotted quad numeric address. The thought of spammers and virus-writer totally bypassing all your security screen by direct addressing is horrendous. Comments? Is it possible to configure sendmail to only receive mail ori...

how to force sendmail to forward mails to another mail server?

Just enter your domain in the mailertable, but on the receiving side there must be a mta, too, of course. So both servers should be running, e.g. sendmail. the pop server has to allow relaying of the smtp server, too. Keep your receiving server in brackets in the mailertable entry to prevent dns lookups, like so yourdomain.com smtp:[internalserver.internaldomain.com] Tim Tim Aden <corrodan@netcologne.de> wrote in message news:<c08rl4$3ft$1@newsreader2.netcologne.de>... > ike lozada schrieb: > > > Hi all, > > > > Currently we have 2 machines for mail (a smtp server and a pop server) > > Currently, sendmail accepts and sends out mail for our domain.
