Sendmail 8.14.3 not sendmail hugely attached e-mail files in a timely manner

What could be the problem.

They seem stuck and I have to run sendmail -v -q manually just
to get them to propogate.

Any reason why?

With so little information, it's impossible to help you.

How do you define "huge"?

How long do you wait?

What's in your mail logs?

sending e-mail to oneself (w/ sendmail 8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8)
Hello everyone, I hate to ask a basic question. But I already spent two weeks. I think I have suffered enough to post a question. I have been using Solaris 9 (SPARC) for years. My sendmail.mc with older sendmail worked okay for years. Now I updated my machine to Solaris 10, which comes with a newer version of sendmail (8.13.8). I tried my old sendmail.mc (with some tweaks) but it didn't work. So, I reverted the changes I made, one by one. Finally, I used the original sendmail.mc that comes with Solaris 10. It still didn't work. The problem I'm having is that I cannot send e-mails to myself. (Mail client == Mail host) I tried: # /usr/lib/sendmail -v myself </dev/null It hangs. The mail is stored in a spool because sendmail failed to deliver. I can see it by using 'mailq' command. Eventually the e-mail is forwarded to 'root' as an undeliverable e- mail (from MAIL-DAEMON). 553 5.3.5 mailhost.my_domain.com config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)554 5.3.5 Local configuration error As you my suspect, I can send an e-mail to somebody else (local). // My question is: What is the correct sequence should occur when sending e-mail to oneself? How can I debug this problem? (After e-amil is submitted to a mail spool) // The newer version of sendmail now uses 'submit.cf'. I'm suspecting that sendmail puts e-mails into a spool even the e-mail doesn't need any relaying. As my understanding of sendmail is very shallow, I'...

Sending mail without sendmail or highly secure sendmail
Hello all, I am setting up a very secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server version 4 update 6 server. My sendmail version is 8.13.1. My mail server is a Windows 2003 Server with Exchange 2003 with its patches. They are both on the same subnet. DNS is on and it will resolve the mail server's name and IP. SSH, SCP, SFTP, and such tools are the only networkable protocols on. NFS if off, MOUNTD is off, PORTMAP is off, and such. Until just recently sendmail was off on the RHEL server as part of the hardening procedure. However part of the auditing requirements is for a mail message to go out to some admin if certain events occur such as "disk is full," "a panic occurred," "the system rebooted" etc. So I will perhaps cut sendmail on and mitigate the risk as best as possible. So, this sounds dumb, but can you send mail without sendmail. I think perhaps no, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Secondly does anyone have a harden .mc file from which they could share what they did? Of course you can fudge in phoney IP and names to protect your secured environment. Advice or insight do any of you have on securing sendmail is appreciated? I want to avoid such things as promiscuous relays, unqualified senders, etc etc. But if it must be ... it must be. :) Thanks George <george.e.sullivan@saic.com> wrote: > I am setting up a very secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server > version 4 update 6 server. mail file keeps growing Sendmail 8.11
I have a problem that keeps reoccuring. Something happens to the /usr/spool/mail/user file that causes it to keep growing in size. When this happens the mail can not be pickup by MS Outlook and the only solution I have found is to delete the file and loose all the mail in the file. If I examine the file I see the exact same messages repeated various times and generally this is several thousand duplicates. It does seem that the reason that Outlook fails is that it does not wait long enough for the system to respond while it tries to process such a huge mail box. What causes it to grow I ha...

sendmail 8.14.1 send mail authorization problem
I've got problem with sending mail via sendmail 8.14.1 on Fedora. Normaly I can send email to any server from access list, but I want to send it to all servers using send mail authorization. I put this lines to sendmail.mc: TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`LOGIN PLAIN')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `LOGIN PLAIN')dnl also: TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`EXTERNAL DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `EXTERNAL GSSAPI DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl As I said without this lines I can send emails to servers from access list. With this lines I cannot send anything. During authorization (with this linev above) server requests for password, I use the same as for reading mail via pop3, unfortunately it doesn't work, even if I try to send email to myself. There is no info in logs :( m4, makemap and restart works.. cyrus-sasl is installed. I've tried to put into /usr/lib/sasl2/Sendmail.conf this lines: pwcheck_method:saslauthd pwcheck_method:pam pwcheck_method:shadow pwcheck_method:passwd and nothing. /etc/pam.d/smtp looks like this: #%PAM-1.0 auth include system-auth account include system-auth telnet shows:: telnet localhost 25 Trying 127.0.0.1... mail::sendmail (SOMETIMES) get "bad file descriptor" error when mail not local
I have a leased Linux box that I installed mail::Sendmail on using CPAN I'm using a perl script to send mail. I have a domain on that server and I get my personel email at that address. The script works fine when I am using my own email address as the recipient, but when I try to send to any other domain I get, for example, "sendmail failure sending to somebody@otherdomain.org Bad file descriptor" I don't have this problem with by Linux box at home and I thought I configured it the same way. (I just let CPAN do it's thing) I noticed that there is a soft link to qmail on the remote server, but it was my understanding that mail::Sendmail is independant of other mail programs. Is there some configuration file I can change to solve this problem? Anyone have any ideas? sendmail 8.14.3 available
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Sendmail, Inc., and the Sendmail Consortium announce the availability of sendmail 8.14.3. This version fixes some bugs: o the MTA accessed storage after it free()d it. This was a regression introduced in 8.14.2, but the bug only showed up on a few operating systems. o ruleset processing: the function cataddr() could cause the addition of the BlankSub character between some tokens when it should not happen and thus failures in rule matching. It seems that none of the default rules were affected by this bug and hence the problem did not show up for default configurations. o the libmilter state engine did not deal correctly with milters that requested the omission of protocol steps during the negotiation callback. A complete list of changes can be found in the release notes (see below). sendmail receiving e-mail hanging advice
Hi, Over the past few weeks my company's server seems to be having some trouble with completing an e-mail connection from a particular server. It's neither the firewall(AFAIK) nor the e-mail filters which are causing this issue. I decided to do a tcpdump on it and noticed that the sender was sending some sort of picture. I've done set the LogLevel to 99 and nothing seems apparent to me as to what is going on aside for the last line being: Dec 13 10:54:06 lBD2rX8n013133: <-- DATA As far as I can tell, it is stuck during the DATA line. And then, the same server would try to connect again. So after awhile, I'd have six hung connections still taking up sendmail's time. Sendmail or Procmail for controlling and scanning e-mail
We have an application which sends periodically thousands of e-mails to our internal e-mail users. Unfortunately the application generates sometimes useless attachements and the internal e-mail server Exchange is not able to handle the burst of e-mail messages in a short time. Therefore i am thinking of implementing a SMTP relay server (or something similar) which is enables us to; - Scan the attachements (checking in name and size is sufficient) - Regulate the number of outgoung mail messages per timeframe - Control the e-mail (resending) to guarantee delivery to all clients. Is it possible to disable SSLv3 in Sendmail 8.14.3?

If not, which is the earliest version of Sendmail in which SSLv3 can be disabled? Thanks for your help. > Is it possible to disable SSLv3 in Sendmail 8.14.3? ...
