Hi,
I have a Kawai digital piano ES4 with a USB out, and I would like to
plug it on my computer, so that i can use it like a MIDI device.
When I plug it, it is well recognized by Windows XP. But the "MIDI In"
list in my MIDI program (tobybear minihost) remains empty...
Maybe there is something more to do so that Windows recognizes that this
device must be used as a MIDI one..?
Thank you for your help
PS : sorry for my english, I am french!

Xp does manage to install many drivers by itself, but I think you
should have a driver install disk that came with the keyboard?
Windows xp probably did not come up with the correct driver for it, as
its probably was made after windows xp was created. Contact the
manufactuer of that brand keyboard, and see if you can get a driver.

There is a driver here : http://www.kawai.co.jp/english/Download1.html
(the last one), but it is said in its readme.html that it is no use with
Windows XP. I installed it however (after having installed the XP driver
first...), but it didn't work neither... Or maybe should I deinstall the
XP driver, and force the installation of that kawai driver instead? Is
it possible?
Isn't there a generic driver more recent than the one in XP?
If I buy a "MIDI-USB converter" such that this one :
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html, do you think there
is a chance that it works? Or wouldn't it change anything?
Thank you for your help!

Regarding buying a midi interface.
Well maybe that is a way out of your problem, since you will recieve a
install disk with the midi interface., but does your keyboard have 5
pin midi jacks that you can run a midi cable to that interface?
It will be a bit cheaper to come up with the correct driver, but
sometimes that is difficult to do, but often you can get midi
interfaces for $50 or less.
If its only usb then your going to have to hunt down a driver that will
work.
Usually you can do that by doing a search on the manufacturers name on
the internet, some search place like google.com
If a manufactuer says the driver will not work with xp, then take their
word for it, or waste more time finding out they are usually correct.

Well, lets call it a midi interface instead of a converter, and yes it
will work with xp.
Question is does your keyboard have the round 5 pin midi connectors on
it so this can connect to your keyboard?
You should get a install disk with this interface, and it says in the
details it will work with windows xp.
