.mid file association in XP?
I want to have .mid files open with a particular program vs WMP.
When I attempt to assign a new association using File Types/Folder Options
and "Change" the program I want to use is not listed and then I use the
"Browse" to the .exe of the application. But when I do that there is no
change in the association and WMP remains the assigned application. The
program I want to use, Power Tracks Pro (PTP), is not registered in windows
I guess as it does not show up in the "Programs" list under file types.
Is there a way to force the .mid or .midi file type to open then PTP?
thank you

The only thing I can think of off-hand is that you may have WMP set to
reclaim filetypes for itself. In WMP, go to Tools>Options and click on
the File Types tab to see if it's set to be the default player for MIDI
files.
Other than that, I'm not sure. I went through the same process with a
standalone exe that is not registered with windows, but it seemed to
work fine...other than the fact that the exe I used knows nothing about
MIDI files. :)
