Commodore MK-10 midi keyboard - help please !

  • Follow

Hi All
I'm hoping to take a few first steps into midi music on my PC.
With this in mind, I bought a cheap Commodore MK-10 midi keyboard
(ebay!)

Other kit is a Win XP Box with a Turtle Beach soundcard.
Now I can get the PC to generate some midi notes using some downloaded
s/w called Virtual Midi Keyboard (which makes the computer keyboard
into a musical keyboard) - but I can't seem to get the Commodore
keyboard to make any sounds through the PC.

It's connected to the Turtle Beach's games port - do I need a driver
for the keyboard (a disk was supplied but it seems to be for Win9x
only)....

Sorry to ask such a basic question - but I'm a beginner to this !

Thanks
Adrian

Wasn't this an amiga accessory? I did a brief search but all the pages
I found were in German. I'm guessing by the photos.

Of course, if you have actually managed to plug it into a game port, it
must not be strictly for Amiga. What did you use, a MIDI cable?

And what software are you running? Tell us more...

Have learnt some more since I posted the original message <g>

Don't know if the keyboard was destined for the Amiga - think it was
always aimed at the PC (judging by the brief write-up on the box).

The supplied software (called Key West - by Evolution) will load and
run on my wife's win98 box - but not on my winXP pc.

The connection between the keyboard and the PC is via a standard
din-to-gameport cable.

So.....
It seems that the midi keyboard will work OK with the supplied
software under win98 - the questions is 'what do I need to make it fly
with winXP ??'

Many thanks

When the Commodore keyboard works on an other computer, it m u s t
work on your XP computer.
The midi keyboard must n o t have any driver software,
The driver software is here:
a. motherboard (game connector)
or
b. soundcard (game connector)
if this right installed, your keyborad works with your pc

I'm using a separate soundcard (Santa Cruz) which shows up in My
Computer (properties : hardware) as having a WDM interface and a Game
Port interface - is this all that I should need ?

That's what I thought......

Thanks
